Keen to see how Jem Ryan goes. Playing some good cricket at grade level in QLD over the last few seasons.

Swepson is bowling pretty well this summer tbh. He would of easily been in the discussion ahead of Zampa I would of thought.
I think Swepson, Sangha, Pope and D Short are all better options than him as far as wrist spinners go.
Not really sure what he's actually said there that is incorrect?
I can easily see Tanveer playing a lot of test cricket. It's just a matter of him not being good enough.

Tanveer has talent but unfortunately untimely injuries and some bad form have held him back. He is still very young and should develop nicely if given the right guidance.

Or is it because you suck in red ball cricket?
"I didn't get picked because wrist spin in test cricket is dead" says the guy who has played 1 red ball game in 5 yrs, which was only because his state side were forced into it and they didn't actually want him.

I mean, if anyone is the authority on these things, it's that guy.

Gannon ????....yeah nah..what about Paris or Couch ??

Honestly what does Paris have to do for national honours in any format

I just don't get it

I like Adam Zampa and have suggested in the past that he should have been considered for tours of the sub-continent, but if you have a "burning desire" to play test cricket, you have to play more red-ball cricket than he does. If it means asking selectors to leave you out of white-ball teams so you can play shield cricket, then do it. If it means moving states to play shield cricket, do it. (And if it means playing grade cricket first, then do that, too.) If it means playing second-division county cricket, do it. And not just a few months before a tour.

He's honestly terrible at FC cricket. He averages 47, his economy rate is virtually 4 RPO, a strike rate over 70 and it isn't as if he hasn't had plenty of chances at 41 FC games, which is more than enough to establish yourself as a spinner, especially considering his home games have been in the two most spin friendly states.

Great white ball bowler. Terrible red ball bowler.

I think broadly the thing with wrist spinners in particular is test cricket is so much more about flight, turn, accuracy and pace. Look at Warne, who bowled low 80s-high 70s prioritising big turn, generating dip and drift as well as flight. Ashwin too is modern spinner who was an all time great at tests, but often not picked in white ball (unlike Warne who was great, but in a different era of white ball cricket). Lyon too is one that values consistency while focussing on higher revs causing flight & drift variation.

In the short form they bowl faster, flatter and just try to hit the stumps. Turn doesn't really matter as much as trying to skid it on to the batter to attack the stumps. That can be awkward as a batter when you must score at 5+ per over, but in the long format you can face them knowing one isn't going to rip off the pitch, and they don't really have a ball to get you out. A lot of white ball wickets are pressure on the batter based forcing a shot. While Warne and Ash probably have about 15 different ways to make you get out.

It's just very different styles of bowling these days between tests & white ball for spinners. Aside from trying to spin the ball they're basically entirely different bowlers.

Can’t suck at red ball cricket if you don’t play it..

Lachlan Hearne 106no off 62 at stumps (made 163 for Toombul last time he batted just before the christmas break too), second highest score of 29 to Ryan Hicks who is yet to play a FC match. Bleak day for the rest of the batsman. Gannon with 5 wickets, 2 to Rocchiccioli and Anderson and 1 to Macmillan

What's your read on Hearne? I think he looks good but feels a bit inconsistent for me.

Yeah 13 a side. Shoabs bashir has really made a case for test reselection here with 5-1-37-1 so far.

Also the match referee is someone called “K Wessels”. Not to be confused with Kepler Wessels who has acted as match referee for several BBL matches recently. Do a bit of due diligence please cricinfo.
