averages 35 in Qld first grade. Not many 16 year olds are doing that id imagine

If this is the kid I have seen in nsw PC red ball, he looks a good all round prospect.

He's made premier cricket red ball 100's this season.

Little wonder only a select few graduate to successful red ball cricketers. Hoping like, Green, Pucovski, Kontas, Hogan does the same, as these kids hold the future of Test cricket in their hands.

that was 'first grade' so take that what you will.


I did look deeper and the WA skipper, Will Malajcuk averages 30+ as well.

First Grade? A WA cricketer progressing quicker than those from other states does not surprise me as unlike all the others, WACA incorporates underage (13,15,17 yrs) red ball cricket into their PC program. So these boys are learning red ball skills from an earlier age. If not mistaken Malajcuk and Zed Hollick, to name two, are two years out of juniors while am sure Ethan Benson and U19 national skipper Simon Budge were playing 17s last year. Both have played 2nd and I think at least one 1st this match this season.There is now a progressive production line of both red ball bats and bowlers, coming out of WA and in my view it will only grow.

Austin was massively overrated in his junior days. The name got him along way - watched him plenty at Sutherland
 
Looks like WA will top the ladder of the 17's champs after the 4 round robin games, with Malajcuk and Hollick leading the way for WA....with the skipper Malajcuk WA's leading run scorer with - 200 runs, and Hollick chipping in with 145 runs and 8 wickets.

Ollie Peake captained the u19 side in India. I think Aidan O'Connor was VC but not 100% sure

Doesn't help the WAFL website folk can't count....has Malajcuk D.O.B 23/9 2007 - which makes him 17 not 18....perhaps a simple typo.

Whilst Hollick, like Malajcuk, was good enough to be selected in both WA U/17 & 19 squads.....for the Jan 2025 and Dec 2024 carnivals respecively.....great achievement by both lads.....go on the WA cricket website for the U/17 squad....

Looks like WA U/17s played their worst game all carnival, collapsing to 100 all out v NSW Metro to lose by 9 wickets. Now WA plays NSW country for 3rd place, with Qld v NSW Metro playing off for the overall U/17 title.

NSW Metro take out the title beating Qld in the final. WA beat NSW Country for 3rd place, with Will Malajcuk having a day out making 131 and taking 5/44. Not sure where or if it was live streamed....just checked the play hq site for scores. Hogan and Malajcuk leading the way with the bat.....not too sure who took the bowling honours in the end....but Malajcuk took a few wickets as well.

England Lions are currently in Australia after also touring South Africa in December and India a year ago. This is England's next gen cricketers with mostly graduates of the ECB Cricket Academy. Remember in the distant past when Australia had our own fully fledged Cricket Academy that churned out one quality cricketer after another. Why did our cricket bosses close it and why has it not been revived.

"For more than 30 years our best young cricketers honed their craft at the Australian Cricket Academy. If we don’t want our depth to dry up it’s time to bring it back", writes journo Robert Craddock.

Former Test captain Tim Paine has a similar view.
"Our cricket smarts and innovation have stalled, and our performance depth is light.
Let's not wait any longer to know who can be next. The return of the Academy must be on the table".

This season, has opened for almost his entire Tassie career. Looks to have found his niche at #3, but Marnus is a less likely replacement candidate than #1 Ussie at the moment.

Wards third ton on the trot. His resilience has lifted Tassie Tigers up the ladder and now he has set up the CA boys for a series whitewash. Another 80 will do it, then be up to the quicks on a flattening deck.

Charlie Anderson nails their best Ben McKinney. Imo, Anderson is a Josh Hazlewood clone who the Blues need to fast track.

Highly touted young lad from from Qld. I believe he is still only 18 or 19, yet to make a shield debut. Took 60+ wickets in Qld Premier Cricket last season against the adults. Not overly quick from what I have seen of him when I have watched him in person, but he is very tall, sends them down quick enough, maybe mid 130's, but from an awkward height, gets use out of decks that don't offer much. Definitely one to look out for in the next few years.
