Nicest/Rudest Geelong players?

Can't say I've ever met any of the current players.
I know, I know...

Actually about 2 years ago I saw some players in Melbourne, they were really nice, can't remember who it was though!

Over MySpace Stokes, Blake & Kelly seem a bit rude.
But that's just the impression I got.
Probably has no play on how they are in real life though.

this thread might break a few hearts.

might be like telling a kid Santa's not real.

ok, in my experience Harley's a really genuinely nice guy.

The younger/not so good players are usually the nice ones. Chapman is the nicest by a mile though! Byrnes, Callan, Ling are lovely as well. Ablett Snr. was AWESOME. Met him last year and got a picture with him. He let me er, hold his footy.

Not so nice... Mooney isn't the friendliest, but NAblett and Rooke are more on the shy side.

I disagree about Mooney, I've struck up many a conversation with him on several nights out. He's always been great value (also helps that he bought my old house though).

Byrnes is by far one of the greatest guys I've ever spoken to.

Had Shannon Byrnes and David Wojcinski come into work a couple of years ago. Thought that Shannon Byrnes was an arrogant little sh!t, but Wojcinski was quite nice.

Was helping out at a few football clinics a few years ago, and Ling, King, Harley and a few others were really good with the kids. Remember one year the clinic was on the Wednesday before a game against Collingwood and the week after playing Essendon, or vice versa, and Ling and someone else were taking the tackling drills with the tackle bags. Initially the kids were very timid and just tapping into the bags, until Ling said "Just imagine this bag is Nathan Buckley, and that one is James Hird." After that, the kids were just crashing into the bags, and then dropping elbows or kicking or kneeing the bag when it was laying on the ground. :D

my uncle has a story he's very fond of recalling about the friendliness of certain geelong players.

back in the seventies, my uncle was in the players rooms before the game and as they were warming up, he asked Larry Donahue, "how many goals you going to kick today, Larry?"

Geelong legend and skipper, Michael Turner, quickly butted in and said "Shut up, ya little prick!" Bear in mind my uncle was only 15-16 years old at the time.

Needless to say, 'Shut up ya little prick!" has become one of our family's most popular turns of phrase.

That's probably the difference, I've met him around the club, and half the time, there are about 5 other people clamouring for his attention as well. :p

Josh is awesome. Came up to me and introduced himself and from then on he was mine.
Playfair was very nice and up for a chat after a game last year.
Met DJ at a club in Melb a few years ago and was great, he introduced me to Barnsey, Misiti and Lovett that night who were surprisingly good guys.

Milburn was great. I remember at a family day a few years ago the players were all signing autographs and after a while the team said they could leave, every player did except for Dasher who stayed an extra hour making sure all the kids got a signature.

Otto and Lonergan were very nice.

Scarlo was good, Mooney was happy to chat.

Varcoe was great.

Mackie a bit of a smartarse but still not bad.

Scarlett is an absolute arrogant pr!ck that I wouldnt give the time of day to.
I dont know what he thinks of himself but the way he carries himself around town is like, dont talk to me, Im hard & tough and play footy for Geelong..........tosser.

Cam Ling & Tom Harley are probably the "nicest" 2 guys I have come across from the current team.

Just goes to you should never meet your heroes, what they are on the field isn't what they off the field.

Scarlett is a unique guy who just wants to play footy and be done with it. That said, i found Scarlett to be fantastic.

In 2005, i took my 4 year old nephew to the game at Skilled Stadium. We were sitting out the front of the game having a kick when Matty Scarlett was walking towards the gate. I alerted my nephew to which he yelled out "Scarlo!".
Matty, turned his head, smiled and headed in our direction. He picked up my nephew, had a play, a handballl, signed his jumper and gave him a high five.

What an arrogrant pr!ck.... !

Maybe, just maybe Matty did not like you and contray to your belief, he did not give you the time of the day. In turn, you've become bitter and decided that YOU would no longer give him the time of the day. You know, kids theory..... I hate him because he hates me!

Byrnsie can be a bit "up himself" Thought this while sitting behind him at a practice match some time ago but he was with some smarta**es from Shepparton and was doing the "big noting". Ottens I met while at Richmond and he was pretty shy. Matt Scarlett I saw piss off some blokes at training but I suspect that they had given him a bit of lip.
Lingie, Tom Harley and Moons I've met and are all easy-going and friendly - so too are Henry and Charlie. The most impressive Cats player, in terms of genuine friendliness and interest, was Ben Graham.

Joel Selwood is one nice guy.

As is Peter Riccardi.

Sean Simpson would have to be the rudest guy I have ever met.

I find that bizarre. Sean Simpson was always wonderful to us when we were kids and seeking autographs. He was even kind enough to take my brother and I in the clubs rooms one day to obtain the Greats Mans signature.

Kind of hard to tell because I only ever served them at work, rather than met them, but:

- Riccardi and his family struck me as very much in the 'christ I wish I wasn't famous' mould, so were a bit aloof.

- Woja seemed a genuinley nice guy.

- Made an absolute tosser out of myself in front of Kelly and Byrnes, but they seemed alright.

- Ottens and The Natural seemed pretty nice.

- Prismall actually looked like he wanted to slit his wrists, but that I think was largely because his girlfriend seemed to have dragged him along to the 'girls afternoon out'. Poor bastard just sat there hunched over as the three of them nattered away.

- Bomber was pretty easy going.

I think one point to consider is people are different on different days! Can you honestly say you are always nice and in a good mood all the time? I know the players have a certain "images" to convey, but sometimes (when they're not on official duties, ie family days, etc), they'd wanna be just left alone, imo.

Like for instance when I flew back from Sydney on Sunday.. Toadie.. yes i repeat TOADIE from Neighbours was sitting right in the seat up from me. It took all my self control not to go bother him (he was with his kid and wife), and get his autograph and ask him what happened on Neighbours last week cause I was unfortunate enough to miss it!!! :D

Anyway, as for footy players... I'm too shy. I get an autograph/ photo n get the hell out of there! Spoke to Garry Hocking one time and he was wonderful. Top bloke. :thumbsu:

Growing up I used to visit my grandparents who lived in the same street as Garry Hocking, Paul Couch and Gary Ablett. Couchy I never really saw, Snr was a very good guy who used to just take his ridiculous fame in his stride and seemed very humble. Garry Hocking invited my Pa in to his house when he was autograph hunting, gave him a cuppa and the autograph for me.

These days I would say:

-Otto seems a bit quiet.
-Shannon Byrnes is a pretty genuine nice guy.
-Tom Harley is a great bloke.
-Chappy put up with me hanging off him telling him to arm wrestle my mate while drunk. He politely declined but Otto took up the offer. So Chappy is nice
-Scarlo seems a bit reserved but is good with kids, as are most of them.
-Mackie I last saw on his birthday last year and he was climbing on the pool tables with left a bad impression but I'm sure he's OK.

Now that is why I chose Buddha as my favourite player. Not only a champion (should have got at least 2 Brownlows.. but hey that was his own fault), but seems like a really good guy.

I remember Garry having a kick to kick with some supporters in the lead up to one of the GFs! Great pic on the back page of the Herald of it.

sean simpson was rude to us when he played with springbank. He acted like a total tosser.
Jamie Lamb was great to talk to. He now plays for Lexton
