Remember that series very well Sherb.

The 1st test we were chasing 380 odd to win. Andrew Hilditch, Allan Border (his first test century) and Kim Hughes made runs and at one stage we were 3/305....and then promptly lost 7/5 to lose the test. Gallingly, Sarfraz took 9-86....

Rodney Hogg smashed his stumps out of the ground when he was run out after leaving the crease to do some gardening in the first innings....

That 2nd test - was it Allan Hurst who Mankaded Mushtaq Mohammed? Think the appeal for handled the ball against Hilditch (which was upheld) was in retaliation to the Mankad?

I remember Jeff Moss batting at the end, basically teeing off. And Rick Daring getting 75 and 79 run out (of course) . Australia got home by 6 wickets in a rare test win....

Was a very fiery test series.....

Yes, it was Alan Hurst, but he Mankaded the Pakistan #11 Sikander Bakht.

The handled the ball was in retaliation, yes, it was Sarfraz who appealed against Hilditch.

And that collapse in the first Test in Melbourne (the second Test was in Perth) was a sight to behold.

Yes, I do remember it was Sikander now.

The handball decision....now I know why Ian Chappell was so veracious when commentating if a batsman was going to pick the ball up. Just don't do it!!

Not regularly updated but a treasure trove of beloved 90's/00's 'bitsers' if you scroll back!

There was a traditional Sheffield Shield match on Christmas Day for 40+ years. Here's the last one, from 1969:

The SA batsmen eating pies while on the sidelines too at the start

6 overs in and the redbacks were on 69. Fair effort in that era I’d have thought.

Edit - super 8s might explain the score

Good line and length from Warne but geez did a few of those keep low.
Dizzy Gillespie batting at 6 oh boy wow wee and James Brayshaw knocking up a 50

Some terrific players in that match. Sam Trimble and Les Favell were greats of Shield cricket. I went to at least one Boxing Day SS game between Vic and NSW. Very hard fought matches in those days

Remembering that there was a state T20 comp prior to BBL, which seems to have been almost erased from the record books probably because the Vics were too good.
aiden blizzard (in a final?) hit one onto the WACA nets, that clip needs to come out of the vault
Simpson (former Qld captain?)
ah, specialist captain chris simpson, with his FC average of 21 with the bat, 69 with the ball. least in OD his bowling average was better
Him and Floros who also skippered
jason floros skippered queensland? ****ing hell

Yeah, for 2-3 games where Ussie and Burns were playing Australia, Hartley and Hopes were injured and they literally had nobody else

Blizzard had only a modest first class record but I actually thought he was all right as a cricketer.
His List A record is worse than I thought it would be. Still, a couple of FC tons.

Liam Davis making 303* is pretty high on my list of domestic obscurites.
4 FC tons in 46 matches @ 31.
I remember him well, was destined for greater honours.....

His triple century in this game:

I remember most shield cricketers over the years but I've got to admit I cant recall the NSW bowler Timm van der Gugten.....apparently played for the Hurricanes about 10 years ago as well.
