He's not that bad. He has had plenty of good games with high 20 possies a few years ago but has since had Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis, Sewell, Clarke and McGlynn surpass him in the inside midfielder stakes.

He can fill a role as a creative link inside midfielder. He's no star, but anyone who says he is no good doesn't understand the game.

Oh When the Saints said:
His first 2-3 years were outstanding. His stats are inflated because he plays for Hawthorn, but he has some talent.

Would take him late-ish in the draft if he was available. Maybe worth a 4th/5th rounder.

How about Troy Schwarze for Nick Ries ??
Yes Please we will take that

Ries is not that bad, he is still only young has played 80 odd games. He is a pretty good in and under player, but does not get a chance at hawks because we already have plenty of those players. He would be good value for a team that needs that type of player, he not a gun but he is not that bad.

Ries for Ryley Dunn??

Sold.

Ries is a known quantity and he has too many players in front of him to be a regular. He is a solid depth player at his best, and his position on the list has been solidified with Matty Ball being chopped. However, his lack of leg speed and poor kicking skills cost him big time. Will struggle to get any games in 2007 onwards as the Hawks new breed of midfielders start coming through, including Josh Kennedy who I believe is another inside midfielder.

He's no star, but if a team needs a depth player capable of playing in heavy traffic, then rather than taking a punt on a 3rd or 4th round kid in the draft, they could trade that to the Hawks and take Ries.

I seem to recall that in 2005, Sydney were initially interested in picking up Ries, but I don't think it went anywhere.

Hadyn Skipworth + an exhange of third rounders?

Hawthorn is committed to using its third round pick on Kennedy as father/son. AFAIK, we'd have to find another one for this to work, and why would we if we have to get a third rounder from somewhere else, as it's unlikely that the Eagles or the Swans will deal with us for Ries (I presume they have lower picks than Adelaide once the finishing order is worked out after today).
