"Nine Radio has ended its syndication agreement with Crocmedia, effective 1 May.
Nine Radio managing director Tom Malone stated the COVID-19 pandemic affected advertising revenues, especially with Nine’s outlets. The syndication had been in place long before Nine bought the former Macquarie Sports Radio assets last year."

my uneducated opinion, this is worse for Nine than Croc

you oursource content supply because its cheaper than doing it in house. If Nine cant afford to pay subbies anymore, their plan C is going to be ultra low cost (ie when ARN switched a lot of their shows to pre-recorded arrangements, eliminating using live hosts 24/7)

Clearly there is a lot of alleged underemployed "talent" out there for Nine to set up their own outsourced content. If AFL comes back with games each day of the week or close to it, there wont need to be key talent, loose term, to fill on the dud days. Renegoiate with croc once we get back to normal.

its not the game day stuff. Sports Today was taken over by Croc, with them employing Dwaaayne, Healy, Caro etc for the five nights a week. basically all their sports news was taken over.

to bring it in house, the lower rent "stars" may take pay cuts, but it will be interesting if the bigger names do

this def underlines how much cost cutting is going on right now though

Malone added that the termination of the syndication deal, effective from last Friday 1 May, will allow Nine to have greater control over the distribution and commercialisation of its content, and noted Crocmedia will “continue to be an important partner of ours across our suite of sports rights”.

On the same day the termination of the syndication agreement took effect, Crocmedia acquired Spirit 621 AM in Western Australia’s Southwest/ Bunbury region.

CEO Craig Hutchison said the acquisition will lead to an “additional content offering”, to be revealed to local listeners in coming months.

Looking forward to syndication of the Nannup Tigers vs Yallingup Mulies game with Mad Johnno up feont for the Mulies I am just not seeing football chatter on the radio being a big part of future Australia and especially with the fragile economy at present.
