Yes, and if Fox Sport's reluctance to cover all games live is the big issue the AFL should cover production costs where required. Momentum is critical.
If the AFL was smart they'd develop proper IPTV streaming of the AFLW games so that when the next media rights happens they have their own IPTV platform so that they are not as reliant on Telstra and Foxtel - the AFL can have their own streaming packages for TV and mobile.

Costs too much money. Here's a 480p video stream for goal review instead.

The current deal runs until 2022, and is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Not going to happen.
If you’ve seen what they’re doing with AFL Media you’d understand.
For Foxtel, the AFL and the NRL are the cash cows.. loose them and kiss goodnight to business.
not a good idea to poke the bear as they say.

In saying that, I don’t believe the AFL cares much for the women’s comp or they’d be doing something about it.

For AFLW, That's exactly what they should do but in conjunction with a free to air component which they still need. It will take a generation to get to the next level and in that time IPTV will replace cable so might as well start now.

They need at least 10 weeks this year but around 12 weeks next year and that is if you don't introduce a finals series - play once + GF

I think they should start mid or late January this year with an idea to ending with a big grand final in 2020 around the Round 4 mark in the AFL. The weekend would look like this:

1x Thurs
1x Fri
3x Sat (1.10pm, 2.10pm, 3.45pm)
1x AFLW GF - Saturday Night Prime Time
4x Sun (1.10pm, 2.10pm, 4.10pm, 7.20pm)

For AFLW recruit Mo Hope, Arden Street already feels like home.

The mercurial forward has joined a plethora of established names, who will don the royal blue and white for the first time when the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos enter the AFLW in 2019.

The 30-year-old admits that the move to North has given her a different perspective on her football journey.

“I haven’t even played a game for this club and I love it,” Hope told North Media.

“I’m fighting to get myself physically and mentally ready because it’s a club that I’ve fallen in love with.

“I think every interaction I’ve had with this club has made me fall in love with the club and made me want to play football again, and that’s pretty exciting.

“I already love the club that I play for.”

Hope played 13 games for Collingwood over the first two seasons of the AFLW competition, booting 15 goals, before moving to North in the May signing period.

She is set to play a key role in the Roos’ inaugural AFLW side, alongside key signings Emma Kearney, Jasmine Garner and Kaitlyn Ashmore.

Very efficient H2H - making a post that can be pasted into both the AFL and AFLW threads and still stay relevant.
Sad but true. I don't think it's a sexist thing at all, it's just that the women's game is so much more vulnerable at this early stage - if it loses its soul and purpose to AFL manipulation, it doesn't have the history behind it to keep going anyway. One of the appalled comments I heard was that AFLW clubs had been asked for fixture requests - this wouldn't be a fair competition, so which part of the exhibition would suit them - and wondered if people forgot this is exactly how the men's game runs. As one commentator on the men's game said, the AFL increasingly treats it as "reality tv with mouthguards".

To the poster who authors "The Shinboner" updates on a regular basis, I'm on subscription for email updates of your report. From what you sent today, I quote in part: " ....... Then of course the first AFLW season. My plan is to cover it almost identically to how I’ve done with the men, once I binge previous seasons like I’m trying to clock Netflix. I’ll freely admit I didn’t watch most of the previous two years, for one self-explanatory reason – there was no North Melbourne team and therefore no emotional investment. That changes now. ....."

I was surveyed recently as a woman interested in footy - basically came around to what will get us investing as members and I said pretty much the same. I was excited and watched a number of games on tv, but my interest in attending games and joining up starts now.

The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have inked deals with three more open-age recruits leading into their inaugural season.

Alison Drennan, Taylor Mesiti and Jess Trend are the latest to secure a spot with the Roos, bringing the list to 24 in the lead up to the AFLW National Draft in October.
[...]
The signings take the club’s primary list to 23 (the pre-draft maximum) meaning North will have five selections in the draft and one cross-code rookie spot available.

Will love and watch North, **** the clueless administration. So just like the men's game.

Hope that before the next additions they'll come to some different perspectives. Maybe realise that women's footy can be played while the tennis is on, or even - hear me out - while the men's season is playing. Feel pressing for a better deal as a fan is a bit like the Tasmanian dilemma - are they more likely to improve things due to a boycott? or do they only pay attention to it drawing higher numbers to games and TVs?

Absolutely 100% the same with me. Except for the part about being surveyed. And probably also the part about being a woman.
