Agree. But this matter is vexing for me. I think he has talent beyond the dons game plan and execution and in fact inhibits his abilities.
Now I know and understand "reasons" for shifting him on. But I cant say i dont often entertain the thought of him still being at the dogs and the dynamism he would provide to our forward line.
Even if you ingore "reasons" and relationship with players and simply look at his professionalism and mental application to the game, it's clear that we understood where his progression and development were going.

He's kicked good goals but it's a decline from literally All-Australian level. You can decline a fair way from that and still be a good AFL player.

2015 Jake Stringer is one of the most exciting things you'll see in a Bulldogs guernsey if you live to 120 years old. But there's more to it than that. If he came back tomorrow....
I know mate...
perchance to dream.
His dynamism is what we need. Apart from his individual moments of brilliance, he duracelled our forwardline.

He reminds me of this bloke :- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Balotelli

Can still turn it around, but might be playing for the ressies when he's 30

Or

In soccer he'd be on his 5th club by now

Im not saying we get him back. Thats not gonna happen.
My posts have been more of a lament of what could have been.
I stand firmly in the belief, that the footy world will never see what Jakey could have delivered. His form now can be attributed to a psych shock after leaving doggies, new club new game style and all of that.
Guess Im just wishing an alternate universe when what happened, didnt happen.
The guy was a skill canon waiting to explode.

If he kicked 60 for the Bombers part of me would be happy. Forget about JUH, we had the real deal.

Agree completely.

Was just more referencing the fact that people thought the initial trade was due to his infidelity, relationship with players and the fact that he was no longer welcome at the Dogs - but it clearly could have been beyond that, in the sense that we traded him in that we understood how he would progress as a player at the time (with time being the only proof of that).

Kicking two GOTY contenders against St Kilda at the end of 2014, sticking up for the players to oust McCartney at the end of that off-season, and then the 2015 stuff, those six goals against Adelaide in two and a half quarters, that's the stuff of magicians. It's clear that he should have been doing that sort of thing for the next ten years.

Some footy players mature as they get older like most of society. Some people are as mature and professional at 19 as they'll ever be in life, funny how that works sometimes.

Is there a bigger meathead than Jonathon Brown?

His special comments drive me insane.

“Second ‘arf....these blokes...ya know etc et”

But because he is an alpha male, has a deep voice and was a good footy player Fox Footy put him at any opportunity.

My esteem of Brown went up in the Fox post-game of the 2016 GF. He actually genuinely sounded emotional because his cousin Liam Picken had played so well and won a flag. Came across as happy for Picken and us as a club. Since then, I've found it difficult to be anything less than tolerant of him as a football 'commentator'. I understand your POV though.

Yeah. The nebulous connection. Clubs have to make descions. But how anyone could understand how he would progress is tea-leaf stuff. His indiscretions obviously cost him his place on our list. Not nostradamus proclamations of how his own character would diminish him as a footballer.
Thats shakespeare stuff.
I just hate seeing wasted pure, pure footy talent.

True. But at least it shined for one year though. And it shined for us.:)

He and Hodge and Lynch are front runners for jobs, living in Brisbane 😑

I know it’s fun sinking the boots into Stringer. But lets not forget stringer was kicking 2-3 every week before he went down with his injury that had him sidelined for 5 or 6 weeks.

Hey mods there appear to be some system problems with posts in this thread.

Posts 255 and 256 have been duplicated and they keep coming up as new, even when viewed. The newer versions of the duplicates have been inserted alongside the originals (Saturday).

Did something go wrong with the indexing and system maintenance the other day?

EDIT: And as I expected this post became a duplicate too. Post #257.

It’s the same issues with him though. He was injured and has since presented following his return as unfit. It’s been 3 weeks now so you can’t put it down to rust. Stringer lacks that extra discipline in tougher times to become a consistent A grade footballer.

Just noticed there's a system message saying "thread ordering is mixed up while we run a database operation".

Also I went looking for the Injuries thread to post something and couldn't find it (until I used the search function). Last post was yesterday so it should have been close to the top.

I presume it's the same problem.

EDIT: Yes, it's happening in the injuries thread too. I guess they're onto it ...
