This team's (coach/captain's) arrogance astounds me. They beat rubbish by 4 goals & 5 behinds.

Unfortunately it's only going to get worse - they've got Port next week.

Gawd I hope this sort of attitude (and charmed luck) comes back to bite them come the pointy end of the season.

Fine line between confidence and arrogance, I agree - but until someone steps up and beats them then difficult to refute. It feels like they have other gears to reach and are still winning, while other teams (ourselves included) are scrambling to put it together.

Could be a Richmond 2018 - coast to top four but open to a rude awakening in a PF or similar. However, they’re worthy favourites right now and not sure how you argue against that tbh.

Not arguing that they are a good side. I simply don't like the arrogance and lucky streak they keep having.

Lewis Young gets a game with injuries to McDonald and McGovern. Interesting to see how he goes against in-form Mitch Lewis. If he does well he could keep McDonald out of the best 22.

Not looking good for your if you're waiting on an injury to a recycled McDonald

Huge threat at zip and 3

Draper ready to be one of the best rucks in the comp despite having zero game sense.

Oh but he’s big and a bit of a character

Meh. Dogs started well in 2017 too

5-1 wasn’t it? (Edit: 4-1)

Still, this dees team don’t have many players on the back end of their career so not sure they’ll suffer the same fate.

They obviously don’t have many issues, but they have allowed streaks of goals in games so far this year. Lever and a few more of their backline missing exposing some things, Wright got a hold of May quite a bit last night. There are some things for teams to work with.

We actually did start well winning our first two games and seemed to be on track to win our third in Perth when we inexplicably only kicked 1 point in the final term against an awful Freo side. Next two weeks we barely beat terrible Lions and North teams before putting up a good fight against GWS. Beat the eventual Premiers in round 7 before the wheels started to come off.

I cannot stand Melbourne but right now they are absolutely cruising.

Do both Tomlinson and Petty fit in their best 22 alongside Lever and May?

Not convinced about Tomlinson as a defender still. Brown’s replacement also did a good job. That tiny ginger seemed to play the Salem role quite well too. Lever is the big one for mine.

Take Keath, Astro, Caleb and Gardiner out of our team and see how it looks.

You’d think only three of May, Lever, Petty, Tomlinson and Smith play - with the first two obviously picked if fit. It’s pretty good depth.

Like any team it’ll be injuries that will make the difference - Richmond most recently managed a dream run for four years with hardly any injuries to Martin, Cotchin, Riewoldt, their KPDs etc. If Melbourne get injuries to a couple of Gawn/Petracca/Oliver then they’ll come back to the pack. If not then they could be embedded in the top four for a while.

On the same issue, just need to hope we don’t get any significant injuries to Bont, English, Keath, Macrae, Naughton and hope the rest of the list stays largely fit.

Not only does Melbourne have great depth in the backline, Weideman comes in for Brown and kicks 4. Their structures are so good at present that even with a few good outs, the replacements fit in seamlessly.
Their fitness advantage over opponents is also noticeable as evidenced by how they run out games stronger.

Bruce already injured is the Brown comparable not Naughton as well but I take your point. I think they've been fortunate in a way that their injuries have hit where they have the most cover*. In contrast do their team without Petracca and Oliver compared to ours without Bont and Macrae and it tilts the other way.

* Not dismissing how impressive it is to have maintained structures missing all of Hibberd, Lever, Rivers, Petty and Salem from their premiership backline.
