In 2022 Collingwood went from 17th to a prelim with a new coach

In 2023 GWS have gone from 16th to a prelim with a new coach

Both coaches spent 15+ years as assistant coaches at multiple clubs before getting their chance as a senior coach

Also we defeated Collingwood in 2022

And GWS in 2023

I can't be salty at Willie Rioli. We won more games this year without him than we did last year with him. :tearsofjoy:

Interesting fact.
Fremantle have been in the AFL since 1995 and made the prelims three times (2006, 2013 and 2015).
GWS have now eclipsed Fremantle's record of prelim attendances (2016, 2017, 2019 and 2023) despite joining the AFL in 2012.
Despite having a 17 year head start Fremantle are now officially less successful than GWS.

With the sheer weight of talent that GWS had (and still do) at their disposal courtesy of their start up concessions and the revolving door of high draft picks they probably should have won a flag by now

The umpires 100% cost GWS the 2016 flag. Swans were GWS absolute bunnies then. People talk about the ride the dogs got in the GF but I thought the umpiring was significantly more 1 sided in the prelim on the result of the match.

It just goes to show that it doesn't matter how many draft picks you've got, you've still got to go out and win games of football. To GWS' credit though, they set their club up right from the beginning whereas Gold Coast have struggled for direction and relevance in their existence.

Also, injecting loads of kids immediately into a new club isn't a certainty to work.
If you look at the draft selections out there tonight, thanks to Wooshaaaa this is:

So it's not as if their current team is ridiculously lopsided with top end talent now (albeit that 6 top 5 selections is still likely more than the norm at a club).

I honestly did not realise he was even playing.
Yeah he’s been like this all season truth be told. Fell right off cliff in 2023
