You’d think eagles are up with the way Will Schofield commentates. Actually out of control at fox, Brad Johnson does every dogs game, looks like riewoldt will do every tigers game.

What round will Simpson walk/ get sacked. I reckon r14-15

Sure, he has a contract but he checked out and allowed the place fall apart under his watch.

He should have walked last season. He has no integrity and should not be allowed near another club.

That's the price he pays for the money.

dunno why they get explayers to commentate their own team, it's appalling to listen to.

Yep they need a fresh start
Pretty sure the club was just happy for him to coach another year knowing how bad they were going to be again this year, and not exposing a brand new coach to it yet. Because really they’ve got the next 3-4 years at the bottom.

I doubt Simpson would be sacked. I reckon they've accepted they're sh*t and need to rebuild and think a coach that has taken them from the bottom to a premiership can do it again.

Also his flag is 2 years more recent than Bevo's (who didn't even build a team but inherited one) and the general consensus is that a coach should have 10 years to win a flag at most. If he thinks he's up to it then I can see why the Eagles wouldn't risk trialling a new coach for their current situation.

10 years is a bit generous

I said 10 years to win a flag, not win finals/finish top 4. If a coach proves that he/she can take your bottom team and make it competitive and consistently finish top 4 then 10 years should be the minimum. More leeway should be granted if he/she actually takes the club to the holy grail earlier than that, and flags are bloody hard to win. Only 8 teams have won it in the last 19 years.

I think there is part of this that is the Eagles doubling down because they're the Eagels and they're probably the most powerful organisation among the AFL clubs.

But things are rarely as bad as they seem. They're really year 3 of the rebuild. I start it at 21 because they've had a big advantage of being bottom for the post Covid MSDs which threw up really high quality players, Culley and Maric. All indications seem to place them at the back end of R1 to pick 30ish (that's 30 without the usual expansion of the first round).

They've recruited quite a bit of talent already over 3 years. Limiting it to R1 and R2 plus the 2 mentioned.

2021: #14 - Chesser, # 31 - Hough, # 37- Bazzo.

2022: MSD # 1 - Culley, ND # 7 - Ginby, #14 - Hewett, # 23 - Barnett, #29 - Burgeill

2023: MSD # 1 - Maric, ND #1 - H. Reid, #30 - A. Reid, #38 - Hall.

It's 12 players in 24 months. The ruckman (Barnett) and the second round from 2023 aside, they're playing the games they're fit to play. History suggests those players, given the opportunity, will 'make it'.

I have no idea what the quality is like but we're not necessarily talking about another 2 to 3 years to build that future core. They'll get more high picks this year, obviously.

They've got the potential superstar in Reid. They've got decent bookends in Barrass and Allen. There are older guys who are not so old that they can't decide they may want to take their careers seriously again.

The part of this that is pretty routine for West Coast is that they're the best tankers in the AFL (I don't believe tanking to be out of the scope of legitimate list management options, by the way). They may be looking at this and be prepared to wear another 2 or 3 years at the bottom just to stockpile talent. But that's 5 to 6 years on the bottom.

Surely they are too proud for that.

I can't believe he's still there. It should've been the easiest mutual parting of ways ever.

They've had more losses by 100 points than total wins in their last 50 matches.

Not sure you start over with a stale 10+ year coach who has overseen an alarming drop in standards. They need a fresh start with a new coach. If Simmo wanted to be a career coach, he should've taken North's offer when they were looking to replace Noble. He could've jumped off a sinking ship and got a lengthy contract elsewhere like Dimma did.
