Putting my conspiracy theory hat on, umpires pumped votes into Cripps to avoid the AFL having the embarrassment of Heeney finishing with most votes but not winning.

Cripps already had 31 votes by that Heeney suspension, but they did give him the three votes four times and another two in there just to make sure of it.

The ineligibility for being suspended is as dumb rule in the sense that you still poll votes for something you can’t win.

What even is the point of the umpires voting for someone if they can’t win? They’re out of the running so why deprive votes for someone who might be the fourth best player or someone goes from 2 to 3 votes.

The votes are irrelevant when you’re not able to win so might as well void them from being able to poll votes too

On the Brownlow. The much vaunted Carlton team, the team rated by a load of media "Experts" as the top rated team and mid field, polled 87 vote all up. Of that 87, 45 were plooed by Cripps.
How much smoke have the ,especially Melbourne media, been blowing up the Carltons clackers!!!
The Fox team have raved about them all year ,yet only managed to register about one vote per player after taking the Cripps votes out.

So do they take away the votes previously won!!!

While this would be ideal, it makes more sense to simply ignore the player from the voting once they are rubbed out.

I know this opens up issues if a player gets suspended round 1 v round 23, however it seems really silly to continue to give votes to an ineligible candidate.

If a politician somehow becomes ineligible in an election, you wouldn’t vote for them would you?

They shouldn't be disqualified or have votes taken off them.

The player is already punished by not being eligible for votes for how many weeks they get suspended for.

Brownlow MVP.

Especially when betting is involved, more scrutiny should go into how Cripps managed to get so many votes.

Especially BOG in three out of five losses.

I think it's because carlton's midfield is so bad that Cripps is the only one who polls votes so they all go to him by default.

I think Fyfe holds the record as the winner of a Brownlow who has polled the most votes in losing games. Not sure if that changed after last night.

Fyfe's was 16 out of 33 in losing games with 4 BOGs in losing games.

A dual Brownlow medalist, dual Coleman medalist, another Coleman medalist and two number one picks.

The answer to your question is that outside of 4-5 additional players outside of the above the rest of their team isn’t much good at all.

Tbf we weren’t too much different when we had Pavlich, Sandilands, McPharlin, Johnson, Mundy, Fyfe, Hill, Barlow, Duffield, Ballantyne and Walters. Difference is that is a few more good players and we had a coach that could actually coach. Rest of our team had no business in the top four though - same with about eight players in Carlton’s best 22.

Mmmm hardly applicable the last part.
Plenty still sitting in Parliament from last regime that should be sitting in the dock.

Fyfe's BOG when losing by 77 points to Richmond in 2018 is one that's sus.

Cripps had two BOG's losing in last four games in 2024. Only 2 or three point margins though. And another 2 points in a losing team Rd 18 to go with two BOG in winning teams in Rd 19 and 23.

14 votes in five rounds 18-24, when losing three games. Not a bad effort. Bont's want to know the secret.

I wonder how much of the total betting pool was on Daicos?

Anyhow my money was on Serong. $25 at $31 for a $775 payout. Don't mind supporting the young lad!

2018 Fyfe wasn't in contention for the Brownlow. Don't think that Richmond BOG game was sussed. 33 possessions. 26 contested possessions, 6 contested marks. The game was grind for 3 quarters then Richmond blew it away in the last.

2019 is the year Fyfe won his 2nd Brownlow. That's the year he polled 16 out of 33 in losing games. 4 BOG's in losing games.
