I am beginning to think Geelong had a blinder last week. Just brought a level of intensity and tackling pressure we couldn't handle. It's a weird game - if you're 5% off in the AFL you can get spanked by an average side.

Yeah, we were off and two-touching everything, as a result no time, and it increased the impact of Geelong's, admittedly immense, pressure. It also meant they didn't get tired chasing shadows, which had our skills been better (we've seen it before), would've been the outcome.

Add in the horrific umpiring, and you end up with almost nothing going our way (Treacy OOF from 40 out in front!?) and a woeful scoreline.

That aside, had we held our shit together at 3/4 time and executed, we'd have been closer. Goes to show most teams are going to be tough if on (including us in that), we just need to be tougher when we're off.

Yes that’s basically what I’m saying? The best teams have a good balance of both. We haven’t found that balance yet and I don’t think Adelaide have either, but Adelaide certainly look closer right now.

Doesn’t matter how good our defence is when we are finishing in the bottom half of the ladder every year because we regularly struggle to kick winning scores. 10 goals ain’t gonna win you many games and that seems to be our average.

Which is why I said, if we are going to be shit I’d rather be an exciting shit like Adelaide (I don’t know if I can even call Adelaide shit anymore, they look pretty good), rather then a hard to watch shit like Freo often are.

Adelaide were the number 1 scoring team in 2023 and look like they’re going to be up there again this year. 2024 was an unexpectedly bad year for them in the same way 2023 was for us.

Also, if you had actually read any of my other comments I never said or insinuated this year was a write-off because of one bad loss. If you read the comment directly below that one I said this team has the talent to turn it around and I expect us to beat Sydney tomorrow. Many times over the off-season I said this team should be making a prelim this year and I still believe that. You can only judge a team off their last game and our last game was woeful, but thankfully a week is a long time in footy.

I only watched to half through way the 2nd, but yes, a totally different Cats turned up. They played like last week for about 5 minutes but otherwise phoned it in.

They also rolled out the relevant players for positions instead of WAFL grade half backs where there should have been mids. No surprise that our best qtr last week was where we consistently won it out of the middle.
