Re: North Central Football League

Could someone from each club give us a predicted line up of their side, ill have a go at Donalds but as it is for all a bit hard to say at this point in time.

B. D.Hawkes Fraser D. Adams
Hb. J walmsley A. Trollop C. Anderson
C. D. Allen R. Funcke J. Hollis
HF. B. Beckham J. Matthews B. Gilmour
F. L. Wheeler L. Jones B. Michael
R. M. McLeod L. Funcke B. Atkins
Int. l nunn t mcconville

thats off the top of my head i have most likely missed some obvious name in there!

Thats seems a very inexperienced side you have posted bend it. Where would you predict that side would finish in the NCFL this year and who do you expect will be the ones to step up and fill the void that has been left due to the departure of 10-12 premiership players from last year ?

Yes, seem's like a bit of a cycle these days. Wyche had there's last year and maybe again this year. St Arnaud have been playing kids for a couple of years as well.

I suppose with these three powerhouse's at the bottom, it will give Boort and the Burn a better chance of success for once!

Re: North Central Football League

There was a number 43 running around for Talbot last night in the Maryborough Night Series that looked distinctively like Drew Bartram!

King how would you rate the great mans form? I hear he has been on the weights over summer and his guns are looking massive!!! Did the JVP play??? If so how did he go?? Did he give any of those famous instructions from years gone by, the ones with reference to the pills?????

Re: North Central Football League

Just caught up on the NCFL. goss. Nothing much has changed since the late seventies early eighties, except for forums. Smasher is obviously a has been or is on the way out, takes swipes at everyone because he cant keep up with them.

It will be a sad day when the leauge goes , but hopefully the league will entice teams to join them, rather than NCFL teams leave. Check back through the league, a see the history. There has been a lot of football stock out of this league over the years.

:) :) :) :) :)

The great mans form was ok. He requested a Size 'S' Talbot jumper to as to showcase his guns and washboard stomach! JVP played and was serviceable. No one was told to hit anyone in the pills!

Think that is hardly true KingRich. He is looking good but wouldnt go that far. He told me he had a hit out at Talbot the other night and said he didnt play well at all and was very "rusty". Can play and is very dedicated to seeing Boort up the top of the ladder again this year though. But I think this thread and Barty himself have heard enough about him for once.

Another topic, I was speaking to a young ex Wyche local the other day and he said Wyche have thrown a bit of cash around but no one is interested?? True/False

Was discussing whyches chances with an ex local and he said they are throwing some coin around. Who captains/coaches them?

Re: North Central Football League

Birchip/wathem would have to be the favorites for the flag at this stage. news about them pretty quiet . no tranfers ? Horsham couple on
the horizon. can anyone confirm.

Re: North Central Football League

Master of Roc, would you have a possible lineup for the saints both seniors and reserves from what you have seen so far? Will be interested to see what you think early days. When and where do the saints play there practice matches?

Havent seen enough of training to discuss lineups, but there are some obvious ones.... Solyom FF, Drum Ruck, Needs CHF..etc

The 2's side depends rather alot on how many come up from Ballarat, as far as ive heard, theres quite a few coming

Prac Matches will be against Warrack and Horsham (Demons i think) horsham game at home and warrack away as far as i know....as for when, they ave to be gettin close...

Re: North Central Football League

Kerin Lourey will lead the dees as coach, unfortunatly a bit past his hay day to be captain, but I'm pretty sure Matty Tinkler will captain as he is Assistant coach, as for the crisis meeting, had a few new faces for the year one a quality senior player, Sam "The Hawk" Hawkins will be back early april, his talkin to a few old uni mates to come up for a kick. Another Ex Wyche coach has throwin his name in to help out any way he can, talking to a few players. and may even pull the red an blue on for a kick.

Re: North Central Football League

I have contacts that Tell me Tessa Allan, Rick Allan's Little sister is waiting upon her brother to decide if her brother is going to travel back to wyche to play football as to her netball plans...This must mean that Rick is seriously considering a move back to his home town...

Re: North Central Football League

I heard this morning on the radio that the VCFL is considering moving ALL seasons back to commence after May. This includes the leagues that have committed to earlier start dates

Just went to the VCFL site and this was today's article.

Country gets by, city in limbo

VICTORIAN country football clubs will go into the 2007 season in better shape than many of their city counterparts.
Despite the prolonged drought, most of the 80,000 Australian Rules participants in country Victoria will be able to play, whereas thousands of Melbourne footballers face delayed starts to the season, and indefinite futures, if rain doesn't arrive in the next month.
Victorian Country Football League chief executive Glenn Scott said his travels in the past few weeks suggested footy in country Victoria would go ahead in all areas.
"From what I've seen and heard, the same can't be said for some leagues in Melbourne, which seem to be in a bit of strife," Scott said.
"They really are in the lap of the gods. Country teams and councils have been pro-active in water management, whether it be installing tanks, automatic sprinklers, good drainage, the right soil and grass."
Almost all players in the Victorian Amateur Football Association - there are more than 10,000 registered - are being forced to train away from their home grounds.
Eighty-five per cent of VAFA ovals have cricket pitches. And when the cricket season is over, the State Government will not provide exemptions for rock-hard centre squares to be watered.
The opening round of the VAFA competition is slated for April 14, but the date will not be confirmed until every ground is inspected.
With 120 matches a week and 22 councils to deal with, the VAFA faces a logistical nightmare before clubs are able to sign off on their grounds from a safety perspective.
"None of our clubs can train before April 1. And 85 per cent of our grounds have turf pitches and we are unable to water them before play to make those area safer," VAFA chief executive Michael Sholly said.
"Cricket teams have an exemption for watering pitches, but the Government has said no to our request.
"At the moment there is no suggestion of delaying our (season) start, but obviously if it doesn't rain and level-four restrictions are in place, then that could change."
More worrying is the effect on junior football and Auskick as Australian rules battles the inroads being made by soccer.
The biggest factor in children swapping an oval ball for a round ball is concern over player safety. With grounds in their current condition, children face a far greater risk of injury.
The AFL's game development general manager, David Matthews, is in constant touch with all football bodies in Victoria and nationally.
"We need to know the extent of the problem and how we can help. If football is reduced, then the social impact could be huge," Matthews said.
Matthews' fears were echoed by Bendigo Football League president Damian Drum.
"You don't want a situation where teenagers and kids don't have a sporting outlet because it could clearly lead to social issues. If you don't play footy on a Saturday, what do you do?" Drum said.
"Hopefully we will have a re-cycled (water) project up and running by the end of March, which will water the Queen Elizabeth Oval where Sandhurst and South Bendigo play.
"We have also pushed the season back by a month, got rid of a couple of split rounds and an inter-league game and scheduled our grand final for the Saturday (October 6) after the AFL Grand Final.
"Kangaroo Flat and Golden Square ovals aren't in as good a shape, and those teams will use the Queen Elizabeth and Eaglehawk ground for home games.
"But a lot of surrounding regions have planned for this, and you will find grounds in good nick at places such as Castlemaine and Kyneton (bore water), Beulah and Birchip (storm water projects).
"The problem is when it does rain, grounds will quickly become mud-heaps because there is no knitted grass cover left."
In Wangaratta, both the Rovers and Magpies plan to play early home games at away venues in the Ovens and Murray competition.
The other clubs - Albury, North Albury, Wodonga, Wodonga Raiders, Corowa-Rutherglen, Yarrawonga and Myrtleford, irrigate their grounds using river or dam water. But in some cases (Bendigo is one), bore water can be too salty. Recycled water from sewage farms has proved successful in places such as Bendigo and North Wangaratta.
Scott said the drought threatened the momentum gained by country footy in the past few years.
"Football is so important for social connection in the country. What we don't read about is the level of suicide in the bush. Having said that, I'm confident country clubs have put structures into place that will see most areas get through the season," Scott said.
"Geelong is the biggest worry. They need to get six grounds up to scratch and the season has already been pushed back to May 5, but they will finish later.
"We have 83 leagues, seven of which a fortnight ago would have had difficulty starting. All of them should now get a start, albeit delayed."

Re: North Central Football League

So what are everyone's recruits. Most team lists must be finalised now considering its only a bit over a month until the start of the season.

Any new players at Wyche from the training run?

Patty, Would the Burn be likely to recruit many more? Should be a fair show with Birchip if they can get one or two more.

Re: North Central Football League

Surely common sense would prevail and the leagues and teams that have grounds ready would start on time / when they would like to start, rather than wait around for a month.

Re: North Central Football League

Couple of new faces, for Donald, Geoff Berry at training last night, and Glenn Wyatt premirship player from 2004.

Dion Hawkes has been training the absolute house down and looks a definite starter for Round 1. Brent Gilmour has impressed and although Donald will boast a small framed and young line up, the bunch at training seem very enthusiastic and keen for the practice match against Warrack in 2 weeks.

Not sure where they are goin to play it! Donalds ground is looking absolutely horrid the worst i ahve ever seen it! The shire have mowed it and just cut it to pieces cant see any footy being played on it safely in the first half of the season.

Seen as wyche wont have a footy side, maybe Donald can play their home games over there. Im sure wyche wont mind? :)

Yeah but didn't someone say they had 30-40 players at training the other night, could someone from Wyche please confirm. I've heard that's a better turn out than the years when they are successful.

Wyatt, now there is bloke who would be a great addition to the midfield with all the losses Donald have had
