not sure but if not we about to become mums army (7 over 30s)

i dont mind going after sheerin as she can play but it should be for a second rounder only at her age
We got 42 for McGrath and 54. I don't think pick 36 for Eilish (Tigers 2nd best player) is enough.
The deal hasn't been completed yet so maybe 34 or 38 comes back. Wait and see when it's confirmed.

They play 12 games a season - think we’ll be right.

Draft in aflw is still a bit random - good players can be found.
Yes we’d be happy giving up an AA player for a pick in the 30s 🙄

I’m not concerned about the age v draft capital for a number of reasons
1 - sets us up even more for 2-3 years in our flag window
2 - as a consequence of above, it further positions us as a destination club akin to the likes of Geelong who attract talent each year and therefore are basically contenders each year
3 - we had a dream run with injuries this year, so improving the list to compensate is good business
4 - draft picks in aflw are a bit more speculative than the men’s (Garner was a late pick for instance)

With this trade is the club expecting a retirement or two?
Unlikely. I think the players would've called it by now.
With a Pullar trade to Swans likely tomorrow and us adding Sheerin, it would leave us with 3 draft spots.
I'm hoping it doesn't signal we may lose another who is out of contract given the cap.

There's an extra 100k into the salary cap in 2025, 2026 and 2027 with the new CBA.
That's likely how we can bring in Sheerin and hopefully retain what we have the next few years.
But also means all the teams will be able to put some bigger offers to players the next few years.

For me I think the first thing the afl needs to do is align the aflw season with the vflw season to give the girls not picked in the aflw teams a chance to develop their skills which can only help the game in the long term.
Would probably mean it doesn’t work for Irish players, but that’s not enough of a reason not to work towards it as the ideal.

Wow. Never thought I’d use this gif on North but…

Some thoughts on a 1st rounder for a 32yo.

It's not AFL. Different sport, different maturity, different model.

North are obviously trading to exploit the window but I think there's more too it than that.

The junior system is still finding itself, draft pick currency is a bit different and less valuable for the time being. The opting for a state option blurs things too.

The current crop of older players only have 5-7 years of pro level Aus. Rules on the clock. A current AFLW 32yo is not beaten up in the same way as a current AFL 32yo with 15 years of AFL system wear and tear.

The set up of the game, the size and speed of the opposition bodies might mean players can withstand loads longer. Maybe top players staying in the system until late 30s will be a thing.

~I don't think you can apply AFL trade valuations to AFLW. Not yet anyway.

Don't think anything he said there is unfair tbh
You can acknowledge the good business done by North whilst also noting that an undefeated team with a % of 300+ doesn't need more talent.
At least for once it us that is benefitting from the inequality - Our chances of becoming the first team to go back-to-back looking very healthy
