Kashy was finished by her last season with us. Credit to her for managing to eke out a couple more years but she had to be moved on.
This is what makes Nostra's claim so wild. She wasn't great in her last season with us, not enough impact and not enough strength to pressure. Gatt and Smith have a ferocity that she lacked.

Kashy head to head with Smith is the more talented, gamebreaking player.

But Smith is the better player for our list needs and required roles.

Fairly common scenario in most successful teams.

To argue between Kashy with Amy is a fundamental misunderstanding of how the wings work in football. If anything, we should compare Kashy with Gatty. They are both your open space fat side attacking wingers whereas Amy is more inclined to roll back into a more defensive position for instance at the back of stoppages. If a team plays the likes of Kashy and Gatty on each wing, they get exposed

Kashy is still playing very good football. I reckon she has actually improved at Hawthorn where the game style seems to suit her a bit more.

I loved having her at North as she was really good as our sponsored player. I think it’s obvious that the team has adapted and covered her position.

I loved watching Kashy when she was with us, but I don't feel we have lost anything since her departure. Taylah Gatt is still only 20, and I think she has the potential to be a better winger than Kashy in the coming years.

Statistically, their stats in 2024 weren't too different.

Amazing pick up.

I hadn't heard anything about Sheerin wanting to leave the Tigers, and suddenly she is coming across to Arden Street, this sounds like another one of Crocks six-day miracles.

My only concern is we traded our first round pick for a 32yo, but she has proven herself to be a dynamic halfback or midfielder.

I think she would need to have at least 2/3 seasons left in her to make it worthwhile trade, but she did finish second behind Conti in the Tigers Best & Fairest this season despite missing a couple of games.

Welcome to North Eilish
Hopefully, she has better luck than Leigh Colbert when we topped up with him after our 1999 flag. 🤞🙏

Gemma Bastiani has tried to pick the best 21 for each team in season 2025.

Your club's best 21: Who's in, who's out, who's new

And her selections for North:

Bringing in two-time All-Australian Tiger Eilish Sheerin means some likely heartbreak for the reigning premier in 2025. At this stage, rebounding defender Nicole Bresnehan's place in the best side seems to be most under threat, but it's a tough decision to make. Claire Mahony and Ariana Hetherington add tall forward depth behind trio Kate Shierlaw, Tahlia Randall, and Emma King, while Hetherington can also ruck or be used as a key back if needed, so is the perfect depth player. Eliza Shannon remains in the same boat as Bresnehan, locked out of that rebounding defender role, but ready to go when opportunity does present itself.

B: Jasmine Ferguson, Sarah Wright
HB: Erika O'Shea, Libby Birch, Emma Kearney
C: Taylah Gatt, Mia King, Tess Craven
HF: Bella Eddey, Kate Shierlaw, Vikki Wall
F: Alice O'Loughlin, Tahlia Randall
Foll: Kim Rennie, Jasmine Garner, Ash Riddell
I/C: Jenna Bruton, Ruby Tripodi, Emma King, Amy Smith, Eilish Sheerin

Depth: Ella Slocombe, Georgia Stubs, Eliza Shannon, Claire Mahony, Amy Gavin Mangan, Niamh Martin, Ariana Hetherington, Blaithin Bogue, Nicole Bresnehan

If our list is fit, we will roll into next season with our first couple of players that are not in the named side being walk up starts to basically every other side in the league.

This team has everything it needs to remain at or near the top indefinitely.

The mix of youth and experience and then the culture to be driven.

This side has it within them to make themselves legendary within the league.

Should be interesting to see what happens in the way of fixturing and flag unfurling. Safe bet we won't be playing the season opener as the AFL would prefer a close game...

Due to start in the week beginning August 11, which more or less coincides with the men's team's last match in Hobart (R23 v Richmond).

They'll probably want to maximise separation between that and the women's launch in both time and place, so the guess I made on the main board was that our AFLW campaign might start with a Wednesday or Thursday night home game at Ikon Park.

Other option would be to start the season away, then play the first home game as a curtain-raiser (potentially as early as 10.30am) for the men's R24 match vs Adelaide at Marvel.

I'd much prefer the flag unfurl to happen at Arden St. The only argument for us playing home games anywhere except Arden St is if they really must play the game at night. Crowd size doesn't justify the move.

They'll probably load up the first 2 rounds with midweek fixtures, rather than having 9 women's matches on the weekend clashing with 9 men's matches.

Might still be a couple AFLW games on Sat/Sun morning in R1-R2, but potentially only curtain-raisers for broadcaster convenience.

Melbourne perhaps would've wanted to unfurl their AFLW flag at the MCG but logistics likely forced them to Ikon Park. With all that said, Geelong waited until R6 for their most recent one, so we may just do something similar.
