Once again the commentators were able to find fault with our girls or at least one did. According to her, we can't afford the same inaccuracy we showed in the early stages of the game, when we "come up against the good sides" in the finals.

Now it would be nice to get rid of some of the misses, but in my mind at least, the inference was that we will need to display greater accuracy if we are to beat teams that are better than us.

Oh well, we will see over the next 4 weeks whether or not we are quite in the same class as the good sides in the competition.

I think they trot out the “can’t afford inaccuracy against the better teams”routinely, regardless of whose playing. It’s just one of the “go to” cliches they us to fill in time. It’s like Underwood’s ridiculous “money in the bank” inanity when Kate Hoare kicks a goal from 20 metres straight in front, i was at the game, so didn’t have to put up with it. I watched some of the replay when I returned home. In fairness, the commentators very much reckoned North were the team to beat. Also, I do agree, we wouldn’t want to miss to often against the Crows. Remember, inaccuracy cost them dearly against us last week. They’re due a game where they shoot straight. It will not be an easy game. We’ll need to nail our opportunities.

Bruton will be champing at the bit next week. She’ll be really keen to make up for last season’s misfortune. Hopefully, the rest will reinvigorate her. She’s has a relatively quiet season thus far. If she fires in the finals, you’d expect we’ll be unstoppable. The captain is going to cause selection headaches, if we win next week.

If we maintain our consistency and attack on the ball, we should be unstoppable, barring a calamity. We are about 25% better across the board from last season. Birch has been a huge plus. Tripodi, Gatt and Wall likewise.

It’s stating the obvious to say that our use of the handball at speed is what sets us apart this season. We can turn defence into attack in the blink of an eye. We are so clean
