Thinking about the game I feel like as a supporter base we’ve been through it all….

Carey saga
Almost relocation
Being 9-0 one year and almost missing finals
WCE prelim debacle
2018/19 to now…..loss after loss after coach after coach
Ongoing speculation about our future
Smashings
Not being able to maintain a lead mutliple times this year / yesterday….gut wrenching

When will the tide actually change properly? We are improving but it’s still very hard.

I’m concerned now about player retention.

I think something changed after the bye
We will see a much more competitive outfit from now on.
I have seen enough to suggest we could win 3-4 games on the way home.

Another preseason, another draft, some smart trades and games pumped into Wardlaw, Sheezel, Comben, McKercher, etc

I think 2025 we will win more and start the rise up the ladder slowly.

It won't be slow. It will come with a rush when it turns.

Thoughts?
How many wins did you think the Roos would manage at the start of the year?

I personally predicted 4-6, and thought that would show good progression from last year. At the bye I didn't see how that would happen, and was then concerned there was a chance of a winless season, which would have been diabolical.

Since the bye, I can honestly say I can see those 4-6 wins coming. I can see the building blocks of of successful team across all lines ready to take off. The run home is going to be fun, so we should just try to enjoy the footy again.

I personally will continue to focus on the positives and small wins for the remainder of 2024, because instead of fleeting moments within a quarter here and there it is now a string of positives throughout a game. How the team continues to develope and work together is what I'm most interested to watch, because there is nothing better in sports than being along for the "come up".

My thoughts are you should enjoy how this group is going about it, enjoy having one of the great coaches of all time, enjoy the anticipation of watching Wardlaw, Sheezel, McKercher, Duursma and Comben for the next decade.

No point in dwelling in past misery unless that's your thing.

We need to do everything we can to keep our blue chip LDU. Z thinks his a blue chip but he is not and never will be. Would not be the end of the world if he walked.

Agree. He's too inconsistent and doesn't do enough. The Collingwood match was an improvement but he tends to disappear for long periods. Would be happy for him to stay if he lifts his game and becomes more dominant.

My toughest times were around 2005-2007 when whatever happened on field all anyone talked about was crowds and finances and killing the club, then they nearly did it. Nothing else in my 35 years of supporting comes anywhere close, and now that’s not a worry I’m not worried, even if some weeks (months, seasons) are somewhat dispiriting.

Every club has bad luck, by the way. Worse than ours if you look at it objectively. And with whatever happens, North Melbourne and its supporters are made of stern stuff.

I reckon that the season is going pretty much to plan. Maybe not precisely, but close enough. A win is a win is a win, but the club would not have predicted too many this year as they understand the reality of the list gaps, so winning would not have been prioritised at any stage. Instead, they are looking at deficiencies (which have to be exposed) and potentially, finding who in the list can fill a role. I'm hoping that a couple who don't seem to have gotten too much AFL level field time like WilPhil are already considered as known quantities for re-contracting.

A few game styles have been tried (I'm paraphrasing Rick18 in a very loose sense as I don't pretend to have anything beyond a superficial sense of game plans, leading patterns and so on. Some have been less successful than others with the personnel available, which creates two alternatives; develop a different game plan or find different personnel (maybe a bit of both).

If we want to get anything decent back in a trade we have to put something decent on the table. There may be a couple of unexpected departures - who knows? But I'm quite satisfied that there has been a bank of knowledge created over the course of the season to identify what are the biggest list gaps and which players create the capital in trades to fill those gaps. That's over and above pick one (or two).

The last couple of weeks have been very different to the pre-bye games so it might be part of the plan to use the latter part of this season to grow some confidence by winning or at least by playing out competitive games. That might also help to open the eyes of some targets and their agents, plus create opportunities for those who might be traded to land a decent deal elsewhere (if that's happening).

The bad new (for some) is that we might not get pick one or two. Whatever.

It might be tough for a little while, but like ferbs says, it just might be a good time to be on the bus.

I will need to consider getting back into a higher level membership while there are still some available ;)

Oh yeah….that’s my thing 🤦🏻‍♀️

In fairness to a lot of us, we have a good old fashioned case of footy ptsd and we’re not quite able to believe things are all good yet. Sunday’s game was amazing and gut wrenching at the same time….so yeah forgive me for being anxious about footy all the time!

That wasn’t directed at you. That was a “if that’s your thing” in general.

There’s posters on this forum whose input has basically disappeared after the last fortnight. But one stinker, and they’ll be out again.

I just want you to enjoy the good. 👍

The last few years have been the toughest for me. Carey, relocation talk, etc. doesn't even compare.
I’ve found the last few years exhausting, frustrating, sad….you name it. Over the journey though as a north fan I have become more and more disillusioned with the apparent lack of equity in the comp ie. big clubs given prime time, exposure, access to best players cos they choose to go there and these clubs arrogantly know it…so therefore they have larger memberships, more supporters etc etc….oh but then their supporters bleat about the smaller clubs getting more funding - but they don’t recognise how unfair the model is. And I’d rather the same opportunities than extra funding to try and even the score. Like certain vic clubs always get to play at the G - others barely ever - oh it just shits me. Boy would I have a thing or two to say if I was CEO!!!

Hey, one of the best things about being a North supporter is that we get to wear the royal blue and white stripes. Nothing compares. Don't ever forget that advantage.

My lowest point was round 11, 1972. I rode a motor bike to Waverley with high hopes; it was the last game of the first round and North were winless but were up against Geelong who were also winless at that stage. My hopes were dashed when North lost by 9 points. We did win one game later in the season, against South Melbourne. Of course everything changed the next year with the arrival of Ron Barassi. Hopefully we can climb the ladder just as quickly in the next couple of years

In this order:

1. GC Forced Move (Until Dallas Brooks Hall night)
2. 1998 Grand Final Loss
3. Failed Merger with Fitzroy
4. 1994 Preliminary Loss
5. 2015 Preliminary Loss
