North wont match us on saturday!

Melbourne have excellent young talls. North looked good last year but apart from Hansen they have been disappointing in defence this year. Frawley has been a gun and Warnock has been good.

Melbourne have the best ruckman though.

Bate + Petterd > Hale

Are North good at controlling air?

Couldn't have said it better myself...and on that basis I hope the Swannies feast on some toasted Lion this weekend like we did last weekend :D

I am very nervous about this game, North match up alright against us and I think we'll lose.

I hate losing. But I feel the same fear. I'm going to the game and when I go... anything can happen lol.

Seriously though, we need to win... BAD!

Will be a very interesting clash, hard to predict as North have given us trouble recently. In saying that, their form isn't great while we have taken it up to a couple of premiership contenders in Collingwood and Brisbane. If we can win this and go 4-2, then maybe we could start dreaming about finals.

I think North are good value. Bookies might have been fooled by the strength of our win against Brisbane.

I'm concerned about how to stop Harvey and Wells. Obviously playing our best footy and being first to the ball will go a long way, but I still think these 2 need particular attention, they can cut lazy sides apart. I think North have stolen one from our play book in regards to handballing to Wells around half back to involve him in the game, its classic for what we do with Davey. Probably play Dunn on Harvey, and look to negate Wells.

Keys to this game are - to keep playing how we have been with regards to pressure when we don't have it and run to get the ball when we do, to at worst break even with North's midfield (can't underestimate Swallow, Anthony, Ziebell they are an even match with McDonald, Moloney, Jones and Bastinac and Cunnington = Scully + Trengove) and to stop Hale. Hale is the type of player in my mind (might be totally wrong) who plays 5 shocking matches but can just as easily kick 5 the next week. Warnock/Frawley will have to be on their game.

What are the odds Todd Goldstein will kick another 5 against you.

Seriously, when I saw the OP's post, I was fuming and was about to risk a red card to put my point across. It seems though that most Melbourne supporters have some common sense about them, just not the OP.

In regards to Saturday, I believe that you will be beaten by us, maybe not by 10 goals like last year, but I believe we will win. However, I am more nervous about this game than I have been with our other 5 games to date.

Should be interesting. North (bar their first 2 games), are a team that will always come at you, and regardless of where you sit on the ladder, and what team we play, there is always a threat that North will come out strong.

Melbourne on the other hand have strung some good wins together against everyone's thinking. But will they be able to maintain it, and will an ass kicking at this time of the year after your winning streak unsettle the boys. I say this because when Melbourne play well, they can be competitive at times, the last 4 weeks shows you that, but when you play bad, you are really bad.

As much as I would love North to lead by 40pts at qtr time, and keep on going from there, I am also looking forward to a good encounter.

Four weeks ago, I pencilled this in for a win. I have since had to use the eraser and now I am sitting on the edge of my seat.

Good luck fellas......

This. Exactly this. Especially the OP's last few words.

As for the rest, I think we're gonna get done but that's my pessimism coming out.

Have fun.

North looked pretty good against Hawthorn but if we stick to what we've done I'm not sure they have all the guns to stop us. Should be a good game, and I'm glad to see it'll be on free-to-air (first time this year) - going to watch with extreme interest and hope we take the chocolates.
go dees :)

I can. 2006 vs Carlton... twice
:(

Ever since I was a kid in school and Alistaire Clarkson kicked a goal after the siren to beat us, I have always dreaded Nth Melbourne. It doesn't matter what players are out on the field, we just always have trouble with them. Not feeling confident....

I think we'll win but with no great confidence. North to me are a side that wins games when they can completely shut down the opposition's gun players and can get the 4 points without needing to kick a big score. If we kick 15 goals we will win with a level of comfort.

I cant remember the last time I was confident about any game

i can think of 3 to memory, the first richmond game of last year, the fremantle game in melbourne and richmond last year. Granted there havent been a lot butttt there have been some for me. It's sad that i can say which ones specifically in 2 years :(

Lol I just had a look over on the North board and the abundance of threads they have on us at the moment, geez there are a couple of them (by no means all of them) who are very insecure. There trolls are certainly much more vicious than ours.

It's very easy to have a crack at an opposition club on your own board, fortunately most of us Melbourne supporters are better than that.

I actually take it as a compliment. It's awesome to think that were now actually capable of being feared by opposition supporters.

Don't take it personally, there's usually 3 thread on every team ever week. Shit, we had a thread about O'hAilpin once, trust me, it's just the everyday thing. Don't be too proud.

This game? I'd be looking to stop your two best players at the moment. If we can take out Moloney and Sylvia while keeping Davey in check, we'll win IMO. Moloney has been huge for you guys.

Dunn will go on Harvey, no brainer. For Wells? well, if he plays up forward, expect Rigoni to match up on him. He's had a great career.

Bartram will go to Harvey. I would like to see Bennell play off Wells. Wells is damaging with the footy, but not overly accountable going the other way, so hopefully JB could find a fair bit of latitiude there. Bennell's defensive pressure has been very good this year, so he could also go a long way to stopping Wells' influence.

Warnock will go to Hale IMO. Hale hasn't been in the best of form, but Warnock will need to be all over him. We need to be able to free up Sylvia in the forward half of the ground to deliver the ball inside, and I think if our forwards work as hard as they did last week, and we get the structure right again, then I don't think their defense will be able to keep up. Certainly they will be able to cover one or two of Bate/Green/Martin/Dunn, but I doubt all of them.

And I can't wait to see the Ruck dual. Hmac and Goldy have been going alright, and getting a whole lot of hit outs, but not as many to advantage as Jamar, even against a Ruckman-less Hawthorn. Should be a juicy dual!
