Today was the first time Graham would have ever played a game with Judd. Weird. I'm sure there are a couple of others but from reports it sounds like Graham really flourished with Juddy there.

Amazing what one game with Judd could have meant for Graham's development as an AFL footballer.
Judging by his numbers I dare say it is one he has grabbed with both hands. Surely must be close to senior selection.

Buckley runs players down and tackles them just like curnow. If he doesn't play next week I'll fight Mick.

Either it was a selection blunder or there must have been questions about Buckley's fitness, maybe the break was too short for him to get up for the AFL game. No one has got a hold of Buckley this season and the way stokes got a hold of us Friday night I think Buckley will be one of the first back into the side.

Can't see too many changes to the side from Friday night except for Buckley and Judd, they played fairly well, it's forwards who mostly let us down and there just isn't a lot of those types showing up in the VFL so far.

Good to hear Graham played well again, really like consistent footballers. Great to see young midfielders coming through after a good few years of no midfielders coming through. Just think that Mclean and Graham are too much of a muchness at this stage but Graham's time is coming. Cachia, Lucas and Watson playing well is good to hear. Still hard to find a spot for those fellas as they don't really fill any of the holes in the senior team at the moment. Waiting for someone to step up up forward still.

Didn't look injured at all but what do I know.

They were 100 times better than when they played the Bombers 2nds. Controlled the game all day.

Thought that might happen. Young boys would walk quite a bit taller knowing Juddy is out there with them I reckon.

Judd looked very fit. He played 3 1/2 quarters so I would have no hesitation in selecting him for next week's game against Hawthorn.

Graham was more damaging than Cachia, although Cachia's strength around the ball was a factor in our midfield winning many of the contests (Judd of course led the way).

If it was up to me Graham would get the nod ahead of Cachia.

That sounds like a fair enough assessment, even though I really don't watch any VFL football, from what I've been hearing it sounds like Graham has been dominating and deserves a call up. And if he does get it this week, hopefully its a full game and he can buck the trend of him being sub!

I watched Lucas & Graham intently yesterday..

Based on what I have seen at both levels I doubt Lucas will be on Carltons List when his contract is up.. For an outside running player he lacks poise, balance and smarts. He get's himself into good positions but then makes a meal out of it on 3 separate occasions he got into good position right in front of me and either fell over, went when he shouldn't or didn't go at all.

Graham on the other hand is an extremely smart footballer, only problem I see is that he will continue to dominate at VFL but has one gear for pace. He is definitely worth persisting with, maybe a solid 12 months in the gym or on the running track will get him over the line and a permanent spot. Or another alternative could be a defensive role as he seems to read the play so well.

Pretty much the way I saw it.

The difference in football IQ between these two players is huge.
I just don't know whether Lucas has gone backwards in his awareness of the game, or it has always been this low.

Just so many instances of poor decision making that I'd sooner not list them here.
Fortunately though he didn't get caught repeatedly, the way he had in his previous 2 VFL games.

My biggest issue with watching Lucas play, is the short steps when running for a contested ball. There were several occasions where he was running at the ball, and could have gotten there first with some opposition contact, however he decides to pull up short, allowing the opposition to get to the ball (assumedly so he can tackle), but the opposition doesn't take possession, they flick it to their team-mate, and its then a turnover.

Surprised to read that. The Lucas I remember had clean hands and poise after he stepped straight into senior footy in his first season. Sort of poise he showed after he roved Warnock's tap and set up Buckley's goal against WC.

Mclean had three clangers in a row against the Cats. Usually a good ball user.

Wouldn't even be talking about Lucas if not for the fact of what he showed in 2010.
Even his training form for the next couple of years made him look a quality, one touch talent.
Unfortunately though, injury got in the way of his progress over the next couple of years and what's happened since is anyone's guess.

Don't like putting the knife into players but I can't see what he can do to remain on the list next year.

Some players seem to have forever to get rid of the ball in traffic like Sam Mitchell, whats Grahams ability to negotiate his way through traffic like?

still only a sideways step.

Graham is basically a younger Brock with a smaller tank. Both accumulate and do little damage.
This is incorrect 95blues

Graham is comparable to the 2010 version of McLean that started off as a furious tackling, grunt working, first possession winning extractor. Since they decided to shed a heap of weight off McLean he is now a slow but very smart mid who wins his possessions all over the ground but doesn't have the size or strength to tackle and do the grunt work like he used to. I think there is a position for a player like Graham in today's stoppage filled style of footy.

I know I've kept harping on about it but how I would love to see Watson given a good go at senior level... A young up and coming KP down back would be like gold.

Obviously Rowe is doing a good job though... just can't shake the feeling we are missing out on a good opportunity to blood Watto this season.

Your avatar confuses me! I need to go find a new pic.

Not in the Mitchell league, but he gets caught with the ball a lot less than he did last season.

I think some people forget that at a similar age to Graham, Mitchell was a plodder running around in the VFL & in his first 2 virtually complete seasons in the Hawks' seniors he averaged less than 20 disposals per game. His breakout season came in 2006 as a 23 year old.

I believe Graham has the footy smarts to be a very good midfielder at AFL level, but with him still only 19 years of age, supporters need to be patient & give him time to fully develop what it is the coaches are wanting from him.

I've read all I need to. Get Nicky into the team. Brock is good at times, and kills us at times. If we don't lose that much, straight swap for the potential 10 year player.

Brock shouldn't be offered another contract. His time is nearly done. Its a pity too. If he was born teb years earlier, and had a better run with his body things would be vastly different for him. Seems like a good guy too. Wouldn't hate to see him as a mid coaching assistant.
