I know that the original North Sydney jersey was a red and black hoop design and that during the 80's they had that red jersey with the black stripes on the chest and shoulders before changing to the 'citicorp' sponsored red white and black designs of the 90's.

Have they had any other designs?

Further back in the 50s and 60s and beforehand, they used to have red and black horizontal stripes, just like the Souths jersey. For a match during the 90s (or it might have been for a couple), Norths played against Manly both wearing their traditional jerseys, might have been to celebrate the 50th anniversary of when Manly broke away from Norths to form their own club in 1947?

Norths wore the black and red horizontal stripes in that match. I think they had a few minor adjustments to their jersey in between the 60s and the predominately red with four stripes round the shoulders jersey they wore during the 80s.

Yes, one of the great mistakes of the NSWRL. The others were to keep Parra out until 1947 and to let Penrith and Crunulla join the comp in 67.

Thanks Sydneyfan. What you call horizontal stripes we call hoops, your butcher stripes are known as irregular hoops in the UK.

Cronulla and Penrith both have big junior bases. Therefore it was SMART of the NSWRL. You sound like a Dragqueen.
