The ensuing media circus would have had nothing on the ensuing circus had he stayed.
There’s no way of knowing but I think when the tennis started everyone would have moved on, just personally opinion. I’m also more talking internationally than Oz.

A document showing that Djokovic tested positive to COVID-19 on December 16 is valid, a Serbian health ministry official said on Friday.
"After the documentation appeared on social networks we analysed the document, and the document is absolutely valid," said Zoran Gojkovic, a member of the Crisis Staff team working on fighting COVID-19 in the country.
He said there was no legal penalty for those who break quarantine rules in Serbia, referring to Djokovic's interview with French newspaper L'Equipe.
"I defend his free will not to get vaccinated," Mr Gojkovic said.
This is the same health minister who was falsifying medical records

Yikes

On June 5, BIRN Serbia revealed that in December 2011, doctor Zoran Gojkovic, the Provincial Secretary for Healthcare and an orthopaedic specialist at the Clinical Centre of Vojvodina, compiled a medical report on an examination that he did not perform, identifying injuries that were never sustained, from a person who had never been to his office.

According to BIRN’s findings, he also authenticated the report using the official stamp of a fellow orthopaedic specialist, without his knowledge, and forged the colleague’s signature.

Documents obtained by BIRN show that Gojkovic handed over the false medical report to his friend, Novi Sad-based lawyer Nemanja Aleksic, who used it in a civil procedure at the Basic Court in Novi Sad and thus directly influenced the outcome of the legal procedure

Dunno.

Maybe there are some who are publicly anti-vax, but privately have been vaccinated?

Maybe there are some who have received dodgy paperwork saying that they’re vaxed?

Maybe there are some who have legitimate medical exemptions?

Plenty of options before we start blaming the ABF or the Government.
Not sure how you could combine that with leading a rigorous physical life as a top athlete. Medical exemptions are for very severe conditions.

There is no way of knowing for sure, but I very much doubt everyone would have just moved on.

His ongoing presence here would have been a major distraction and caused major headache for everyone.

No tennis related questions would have been asked in press conferences
Crowd control would have needed to be beefed up
The booing from crowds watching his matches would likely have been relentless

It would have been an absolute shit-show, the extent that this has taken the gloss over the tournament already would have nothing on the extent to which that would have been the case had Novak been allowed to stay and compete.

The ABF is a federal authority under federal jurisdiction and carrying out the responsibilities associated with a federal border. They should never have been letting anyone in under state law and it would be a dereliction of duty if they did.
Don't bother. The poster is not interested in facts.

The link refers to a lawsuit that was brought. Doesn't say anything about what eventuated.

1. What was the result of the lawsuit?
2. Is the Zoran Gojkovic in the lawsuit the same as the health minister?
3. Were the allegations against Zoran Gojkovic confirmed?

If it is the same Zoran Gojkovic, then surely he could not have retained his position as health minister if he was found guilty of fabricating medical records.

Highly unusual for both parties........
They love to bask in success, but hide or don't recall when things go south!
Poor leadership. Tiley has remained hidden during this drama. No word from him.

But I am sure he will expect recognition from the public during the Final Presentations.

Agree to disagree. I think his first presser he probably shuts down the qs and from there it becomes pretty pointless discussing.

Editorials and tweets remain but the sport gets played and the international media (who really only care that we were deporting him) would have moved on.

Given the world corruption index, Serbia in about 92nd spot. Australia is at number 7 (Finland being the least corrupt at number 1). So the fact Serbia is quite a corrupt place this sort of behaviour shouldn't really surprise.

How many times does this have to be covered.

Vic rules go by ATAGI: “vaccination can be deferred, in those with PCR- confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, until complete recovery from the acute illness (which may be up to 6 months)”.

Health Minister Hunt repeatedly advised TA that a positive PCR test did not prevent persons from being vaccinated, and therefore would not constitute a ‘medical condition’ for an exemption from being vaccinated.

ABF therefore accepted, in good faith, that the exemptions issued by TA’s Dr Lickspittle would be for a valid ‘medical condition’.

Djokovic knew he had never been advised that vaccination endangered his health/life. He lied to the ABF officers, when he repeatedly asserted he had written Federal Government approval.

It is not practical for public servants to go through everything with a fine tooth comb. As stated by Judge Kelly: administrative efficiency, timeliness and cost are valid considerations when implementing legislation.

… and previously mentioned by Proper Gander to my preference for a ‘fair hearing’, prior to a visa being considered - “If you, as a taxpayer, want to fork out for increasing the workforce of immigration by a factor of more than 20x then absolutely this would be a great idea”.
So you're saying this part of the court document is false? What holds more weight and relevance here, a personal letter from Greg Hunt to Craig Tiley, or an official document from the Department of Home Affairs to Novak Djokovic?

People assume it's some kind of health issue that means you're frail and on your death bed.

One of them is anaphylaxis, which is not at all incompatible with being an elite athlete.

I've got a friend who had to consult their doctor to have every ingredient in each vaccine checked against the numerous things they're allergic to before being advised which vaccine was safe to take (as it turns out, for her, none of them had anything that would set her off). There's some vaccines she can't have for this reason though.

In day-to-day life it just means avoiding certain food or medication, wouldn't impact on someone being an elite athlete.

Does DHA automatically issue documents online in the same sense that you get an ESTA to enter the US by checking a few boxes online unless you tick something wrong and it requires manual review?

Make me some loukoumades friend

No problemo..

One of the easiest sweets to make. One of my favourites as well. Everything moves quickly though.. so you've got to be on the ball.. that's it. Liken it to taking a straight forward catch at 1st slip. Easy.. yes.. but the ball moves quickly.. so gotta stay focused.

Novax's medical exemption doesn't fit that description though. He claimed it on the basis of a previous infection, which is not a medical condition, is it?

It was a more general answer, not being able to be vaccinated (for legitimate reasons) isn't necessarily an indicator that someone couldn't be an elite athlete.

Novak is simply an anti-science moron though.

According to this article Djolovic would have to:

French Open
Unvaccinated visitors to France must present a compelling reason for their travel and provide evidence of a negative coronavirus test taken less than 48 hours before departure. They also must test again upon arrival, quarantine for at least a week and test again at the end of their quarantine.
This year’s French Open begins May 22. Djokovic is the defending champion and has won the tournament twice.

Wimbledon
... as an unvaccinated person, he will have to take a coronavirus test two days before traveling to the country, quarantine for 10 days and take more coronavirus tests on the second and eighth days of his quarantine.

Those are the travel rules for foreign visitors set by the British government. It remains to be seen whether the All England Club will set its own requirements for participation in the tournament or merely follow the government guidance.

Djokovic has six Wimbledon titles and won last year’s tournament. This year’s event starts June 27.

U.S. Open

Djokovic’s unvaccinated status could be problematic when it comes time for the U.S. Open, a tournament he has won three times. Visitors to the United States must be fully vaccinated if not a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident or traveling to the United States on an immigrant visa.
There are exceptions to this rule, but most of them would not seem to apply to Djokovic. He could claim to have a documented medical contraindication to receiving a coronavirus vaccine or could seek a humanitarian or emergency exception from the U.S. government.
People from countries that have limited coronavirus vaccine availability also may seek an exception to the vaccination requirement, but Djokovic’s home nation of Serbia is not on the list of such countries (nearly all of them are in Africa).

I also heard on US TV that he plays in tournaments in California and Miami leading up to the open.

My error. She is an elite, endurance athlete?

“Elite athlete” doesn’t necessarily mean “elite health”. Plenty have asthma (not suggesting that’s a contraindication). Plenty keel over at a relatively young age.
