If your boss comes to you and says you have to take a 50% pay cut would you stay “for the love of the job”. Doubt it. The money these guys make in many is important income to their budget.
That means your boss has been paying over market rates and reality has hit home and he's losing money and now needs to cut costs.

What's clear if you want to play up the top divisions is you need a regular income stream. The higher the division, the higher the income stream. Benefactors have a lifespan, long or short but it always comes to an end. One day we might have a board that says no to promotion based on their income, not their ego.

Money is still lower than it was pre salary caps. the Eastern league has increased the cap a couple of times in a few years now but hopefully it stands firm for a while. There are a few clubs that are always agitating for higher caps as they can afford it, so they want that advantage. Hopefully the league doesn't give in to them.

Those who say the cap has no impact are wrong, it has definitely lowered the spending, of course some clubs cheat it, but it has had an impact overall.

We are heading into some tough economic times... players will have their hands out as a bit of extra cash can go a long way. All of these interest rate cuts take a while to filter through and we haven't seen the impact of them yet - we could well be headed for a recession which makes things harder for clubs when seeking sponsors etc.

Ultimately you have to be aware that if you bring players in for cash, they're not likely to hang around if a better offer comes along.

The recipe remains the same - get your juniors right, get your Under 19s right, and build yourself a core group of players who are wedded to the club. All clubs top up with recruits but there aren't many who can afford to just buy new players every year.

If your juniors and Under 19 squad aren't consistently strong you'll have issues at some point, unless you're one of the very few who have bottomless buckets of cash.

Waverley Blues confirm they’ll be playing at Central Reserve in 2024.

Think that pretty much kills off any small chance of Glen Waverley returning.

In a strange way i think it gives them one last chance to reform because Waverley will only be there for the one season and have no desire to stay. A worse scenario is Mazenod (or another tenant) moving in who wants to take over the facility.

But at this stage it seems they have no desire or plans to even try to revive their football club.

Running footy clubs in that area will be a challenge anyway with the high Asian population. Starting a new one is basically impossible. They have no juniors or prospect of any.

Even before they folded, the year earlier they imported nearly 30 players from Salesian just to have a list.

So who are the big ins and outs this off season. From my observations it doesn’t seem to be as much movement compared to previous seasons. Norwood has lost quite a bit of top end talent. Sth Belgrave picked up more quality Luke Dunston etc. The Basin looked to have picked up a lot of older players Joel Perry being one to help out their youth coming through but have lost there captain Shane Davidson and young gun Christian Poe who is off to baysie. Noble Park lost Jackson Casey back to Bonbeach and Ryan Morrison to Dromana. Any others ?
Kieren Byers has left Noble Park for Koo Wee Rup in West Gippsland League.. heard Tom Glen might join him.

How do they go? just role players at Noble?

Declined due to players moving on. Had a crack at winning a premier flag, didn’t work out, now rebuilding again.
Very well run club.

Yep, fair enough. I did hear a rumor they don't charge reserves players subs so they actually get a side up. Not sure how viable that is long term.

WB actual home getting a refurb?

Mazenod's oval really struggled this year. Had to move a couple of their games to central res. And a lot of their womens games.

Yep, St mary's salesian really struggled because of that. Got absolutely pummeled, went down, only won 4 1/2 games and would've gone down again but saved because of division restructure.

Looks like GWH are dead. The two culprits on that mad monday debacle should feel the majority of the blame.

3. Don't forget the biggest idiot of the lot was the bloke who videoed it and the put it online. You'd have to be brain dead not to realise that was a really dumb thing to do, with a lot of consequences.

Other behavioural issues with the group on the day certainly didn’t help the situation. Always a danger when any group of footballers get together for their muck up day. This went to a whole new level.

And outside that group no one would have been the wiser, except that idiot posted it on line and just about everyone in Australia found out what happened and the club was destroyed.

Donny East president can't seem to understand why their younger players leave when they can't get a senior game among the few dozen VFL and AFL players they've brought in :tearsofjoy:

“Unfortunately, we lose Ben Quaynor to a country club, really sad to see him leave and was not expecting him to go, hopefully Ben will be back in the near future.”

They’ve also lost a couple of fringe players in search of senior opportunities in lower divisions.

“When you’re winning games in Premier (Division) and finals, you always seem to lose a few fringe players to lower divisions who probably aren’t prepared to do the hard work over summer and change their habits,” Sowersby said.

“Lower divisions probably suit them and most become fringe players at those clubs too.

“The young talent we have coming through is very exciting and probably not recognised enough by the outside – probably why we aren’t ranked in the top 75 clubs in Victoria.

“To have two out three sides play finals this season is a huge effort by a club which has been in Premier Division for two full seasons.”

If I’m a young ruck or KPP at Donny East, and they’ve brought in 5-6 former VFL and AFL players in those positions in the past two years… not sure it’s a case of me wanting to change my habits or do the hard work.

I’m clearly never getting a senior game there.

Pretty outrageous statement tbh.

Without knowing the players leaving or their potential, that's a brilliant way to catch everyone off side and guarantee they don't come back. What if some of those do develop into good players in lower divisions and become potential contributors to premier division success in future years? Won't be returning to the club off the back of comments like that.

Give them opportunity & reasons to stay or if they're leaving just shake hands & wish them the best, leave the door open for a return. Pretty stupid.

Yep ridiculous comments. No awareness at all.
