You are dreaming. Vermont clearly the worst. That post is evidence. Stingrays territory doesn't start until past Rowville, what business do they have playing at vermont? Headhunted at u15 level under promises.
Everyone knows it, people like you bury their head in the sand about it. This is how they cheat the system.

Saw in the u/18 eastern ranges squad 5 or so north ringwood kids in there. Bet your bottom dollar they were contacted by vermont to come play for them around u14/15 level.

Bet Nth Ringwood poached a few of them

North Ringwood's Ranges kids are a great example of it being far from just Vermont recruiting kids.
Chandler moved from Beverley Hills to North Ringwood in 2024.
Knapp moved from the Basin in 2023.
Sizer moved from Warrandyte in 2025.
Hansen moved from Blackburn in 2024.
Maaskant moved from Mitcham in 2024.
Lawrence moved from Park Orchards in 2024.

Huh? Why would somebody at Vermont be playing for Dandenong?

Ohhh they were recruited to Vermont in Under 15s. How silly of me.

Zero shame.

Apparently you’re the voice of reason on this forum Bunk as I’ve said before you DO make a lot of sense on a lot of topics … BUT You really need to do your homework on these two boys ….. I wait with anticipation.

From my knowledge, if the boys have been cut from Squads before, then they can try out at another.

Maybe this is what has occured, cut by Eastern Ranges, go to Dandy Stingrays, get a gig.

I’m only a voice for myself, agree or disagree, that’s the nature of discussion.

Unless you move house you cannot change I thought, A nuffy father i knew lived in warrandyte north, therefore child goes to northern knights, he wrote to the afl asking them to let his kid play @ eastern ranges with his friends. Big ruckman who had no idea what he was doing, 6'8" played vic metro, didnt get drafted or invited to play VFL

Where you live dictates which zone, And thats for country kids boarding at melbourne private schools, xavier college, you play for oakleigh, brighton grammar you play for sandringham etc

Pretty sure it's still the case that if you get cut / overlooked by the program you're zoned to you can then go 'out of zone'. I recall that Toby McLean was cut by Chargers and went to Stingrays & got drafted and I'm not aware that it's changed

Given at least one of the Vermont kids played at Chargers last year I’d say it hasn’t changed.

WA Football has implemented a points cap at Year 8 level and above (teams are based on school year levels in WA, not age groups so it is the equivalent of U/14s and up)...
Going a bit OT here, but it does say 'talk about anything'...

I don't have any opinion on the points cap / backdating of points, but the bit about basing junior footy on school year is a great idea for junior footy, imo. I'm just p!ssed off they didn't have it back in my day.

Back in the 90s, school footy (at least where I was) was a total friggin mess. Due to timetabling we trained by year level (Year 9s had the oval last lesson Mon and Wed, Year 10s last lesson Tues and Thurs), but we played as U15, U16, etc. The birth date cut off (1 Jan, I think) cut each year level almost perfectly in half. The younger year 9s played in the U14s (?) with the older half of the year 8s, and the older year 9s played in a U15 (?) side with the younger half of the year 10s. The result was that we ended up playing with kids we barely knew and never trained with (and quite often didn't like - year 9s looked down on year 8s, etc.). I suppose the other teams had the same issue, but it didn't improve anyone's enjoyment of playing.

I suppose there could be some issues with varying ages in the same year level, but the number of kids who repeat grades or skip grades is very small, so I don't understand why school footy here didn't adopt this years ago.

It's OK if you are at a private school, but government schools only play one day over the year, unless your schools wins the tournament. Government schools don't play every week like private schools do. Sounds like WA still conduct sport like Victoria did before 1993. Schools teams train over a couple of weeks and then the team is selected. Year 7 and 8 have their own teams. Year 9 & 10 a combined team and the same for 11 and 12. Apart from the school coach, unless you win and go on to Zone level, no one else would have a clue about who played.

Jeez, school footy has gone downhill since the 90s...

Why do they bother?

Pity the younger year 9s, and those late to have a growth spurt.

Up to Year 8 or so, kids (my grade, anyway) were all much the same size. After that, growth spurts kicked in - at varying times. By Year 11 or so, everyone had caught up as much as they were going to. It is in Years 9 & 10 that we had big differences - kids within 12mths in age of each other, some of them looking like 12yos, others would pass for 18. Combining 2 year levels into 1 would make this even worse (massive 16yos vs short, skinny 14yos).

The reason year levels are combined is simple. At year 7 & 8 kids are really keen to play and the numbers are there. As you get into higher levels their interest drops off and there are less kids who want to play. So to get the numbers needed to fill a team, year levels are combined. This is reflected in the year and a half jump between U16 and U17.5 and the two year jump between U17.5 and U19.5 in the EFNL.

Still plenty of people playing in cricket grand finals and after yesterday's rain they'll also be playing next saturday.

Very hard to take much out of practice matches - so many outs and guys playing limited game time.

Never used to keep scores back in the day, clearly that has changed!

Some of the practice matches on the weekend involving Efnl clubs.
Blackburn over Collegians
Narre over Berwick
Rowville a draw with Edithvale/Asp
Boronia over Waverley Blues
Norwood over Mulgrave
Montrose over Sth Croydon
ESS Doutta stars over Doncaster
Cranbourne over Wantirna Sth

Emerald over Coldstream
Warburton over Kilsyth

Agree watched a couple of games on the weekend and all clubs had 6-10 of their best not playing and the ones that did only played a half. Don’t know why some clubs get so fixated with practice matches that they put the results on their socials. Maybe it’s an ego thing with some but for those that are interested here are some of the results involving Efnl clubs
