Is the Riverina club Himmelberg from actually called Mangoplah United-Eastlakes, or did they just screw up saying he was from Mangoplah United, and subsequently "Eastlake" in Canberra?

Nope it sure is Mangoplah United-Eastlakes.
Abbreviated to MCUE but known locally as Mango.

Edit: forgot to add 'Cookardinia' after Mangoplah.

Whether you intended to or not this appears to be quite a cynical use of stats.

All those Riverina clubs are proud to have their ex-players reach AFL level. It doesn't diminish the achievement due to your labelling of them coming from "the Riverina".

Some of these clubs are older than many notable Melbourne clubs and some are older than EVERY SINGLE rugby league club in the country. All of these grand old Riverina football clubs are deserving of our respect.eg
Mangoplah was formed in 1912...so I think it is a great achievement for these clubs to continue their legacy on the big stage. Few Mangoplah players have made the AFL stage at this point btw so please don't try and diminish the achievement. Wagga Tigers, Leeton etc have had a few more make the AFL than MCUE.

This article BELOW refers to this draft being a record draft as a result of having four NSW players in the top 20.
One from Sydney - Mosman Swans. Himmelberg is originally from MCUE (outside Wagga)...not Eastlake in the ACT.

Another factor is that Collingwood's Michael Hartley is from the Western Sydney club of Penrith and Naismith is from up near Tamworth - Northern NSW...so there is more scope for player recruitment. Heeney from last year's draft came from outside Newcastle.

There already is an Academy for Fremantle and West Coast, its called the WAFL. Both WA clubs fund it for other AFL clubs to milk talent from except we don't get to bid on the elite players with a shit load of lame late picks.

WA not sitting on its hands ...
WA’s talent development system is not broken, but needs “tweaking” and renovation, according to outgoing WA football commissioner Frank Cooper.
Speaking this week before eight WA players were taken in the national draft in Adelaide, Cooper called for football to search for the right balance between the WAFL competition and talent development.
WAFL clubs needed to refocus their efforts on player development, as did the WAFC, but there also needed to be a greater contribution to development in the State by the AFL.

“The AFL as a competition has come forward in huge leaps and bounds over the last 10 or 15 years. What hasn’t come forward with it is the whole development system and the community model that lies underneath it,” Cooper said.

“Fremantle and West Coast contribute into the national pool for development of the national game in the same way as other AFL clubs, but we don’t get proportionally the same investment back into Western Australia from other clubs.
“Fremantle and West Coast carry a responsibility that other AFL clubs don’t through the royalties paid to the WAFC. They are investing in the game in WA. They are doing something other AFL clubs aren’t. They are also in a very competitive world with the other AFL clubs revolving around the strength of the competition, facilities and so forth.”

Is Mills the one whose grandfather was a good WAFL player?

His grandfather Ray Mills was a former League player for Perth Football Club and for Western Australia in the 1960s, a successful era with players including Barry Cable & Bob Page. Mills brother also played at the same time, not as good though.

Ray Mills was a livewire half forward flanker or wingman who in some ways was almost a prototype of the modern AFL footballer. Explosively quick - coach Mal Atwell regarded him as the fastest sprinter at the club - aggressive, assured and well balanced, he made a key contribution to Perth’s premiership wins in 1966, 1967, and 1968. His kicking was excellent, whether over long or short distances, and he was sufficiently accomplished overhead to hold down centre half forward on occasion. Between 1962 and 1969 he played a total of 110 league games. He also made four interstate match appearances for Western Australia.

Frank Pyke, the late father of Adelaides new coach (Don) was playing for Perth about the same time.

Yes but he started playing Aussie Rules at 13 through pure chance. He did not start playing because he dreamt of being in the AFL and being born and raised in Mosman I highly doubt he would have been able to have been drafted from there, not without the academies help to train him and improve his skills.
