I played up there for six years and could never get over how bad the umpiring is especially when the AFLNT spend a heap of coin getting some cocky little AFL cat up to run the show. Just gets worse and worse.

Why don't they go back to 2 centrals and put pressure on blokes to perform? These stains know they will get a game each week if they do a good job or not.

It does make you appreciate the umpiring down south which still has it's faults but it's no where near as ridiculous as it is up north.

It's the same game all over the country so how the hell do the rules change in Darwin? $hits me to tears.

It's the inconsistency that amazes me the most as the same umpire can change their own interpretations depending on who and what side is playing many times in the one game.

I agree going back to 2 umpires would be better as it would mean some of those that should be dropped would be........they pretty much know they will get picked each and every week no matter how they actually performed at the moment.

yeah seems as though every1 man and there dog wants tiwi to win all their games.

A huge fan of them, but I certainly don't fall into that category. (I know you're not referring to anyone, fiddy, so it's not a dig at ya.)

I do notice a bit of inconsistency with the umpies but in the NT there's a reluctance among commentators of the game - in TV, print, radio - to publicy criticise as numbers are a bit thin. Well, that was the case previously.

From the Central Murray Football League was wondering how a few of the local boys were going up there. Cole Hedwards (Nightcliffe) and wade the ox Deveraux (Palmerston) i think they would be seconds players, but all the same would still like some info?

Interested to see Luke O'Tooles name in the Districts team sheet on aflnt's fixtures & results this round....Was that his first game for the croc's since arriving !? How was his first up form...needed the run !!

The umpires may not be the best running around some are old and unfit. But you're kidding yourself if you think better ones are doing reserves and juniors.

Usually the A grade umpires umpire with a junior umpire for the Under 18 matches.

If there were only two umpires their performances would be worse.

I'm not saying there are better ones in reserves and juniors but those in the seniors know they will be umpiring seniors the following week no matter how they perform at the moment.............that's what need's changing.

If there were 2 umpires we'd only have to put up with 2 different interpretations compared to the 3 we have at the moment.

You might also get a fair few frees not seen, considering (a) the speed of the game, and (b) fitness levels of some umpires, as alluded to by NT Bomber.

We get a fair few frees not seen now......and quite a few called that were never there.............I think after the weekend a few more clubs will be taking Nightcliff's approach of using the media as those supposed 'correct procedures' don't work for any of the clubs.

I know from talks with officials at a few different clubs they are all keen to see it go back to 2 umps to get more consistency in the decisions......that's the biggest issue not so much the individual errors as the umps know they won't be dropped no matter how bad they perform.

Some of these teams complaining about the umpires should focus on their own problems.

Motlop should be looking at his own coaching and players before having a go at the umpires.

Umpires have always been the same standard in Darwin and like the current playing standard doesnt appear to be improving.

People used to have a go at Hayden Kennedy when he umpired in the NTFL and he went on to do AFL.

anyone know the scores/best for the reserves, especially Waratahs game??

yeah, tahs defeated saints in the ressies, 15.13.103
6. 3. 39

Best for tahs were... Jethro Calma-Holt, Ben Chalmers, Roger Jones
Im sure kendall garling got best for saints, then willy may

And for Centre Square, jimmy coatsworth did alright on the wken he showed some good signs, and trains with the league team when we split up. Heard he can rip it up!!

Totally agree that the clubs themselves have a lot of work to do themselves.......the only reason I bought this up was the result of the game on Saturday between Tiwi's and Palmerston (neither of who I support but I like watching footy) was directly influenced by some stupid decisions in the 3rd quarter which enabled the Tiwis to score 3 goals......at the same time Palmerston should have kicked 1 of those misses they had in the last quarter.

Umpires have always been the same standard in Darwin and like the current playing standard doesnt appear to be improving.

I would actually say the standard varies depending on who is umpiring with who as we have a couple of umps who know they won't get dropped no matter how bad they perform and any official criticism of them through the correct channels just gets ignored.

I'd just like to see the NTFL get a bit more serious about how they handle umpiring full stop as the incentives for new umpires or people to come up from down south are pretty poor and a couple of the senior umpires should be more careful what they say about how they umpire games/clubs as their bias clearly shows against some clubs.

Here, here DK. As for missing decisions, as old DK said, they miss enough as it is and guess the rest of the time. Make them earn their games. I've never been more angry with umps as i have up there. They are more untouchable up there because of the AFLNT than anywhere and they know it which is why they milk this zero tolerance rubbish to the max.

How are the tigers going so far this season? Are they a chance to be there at the business end? A CHF from down my way by the name of Caddy is playing this weekend. He is jumping out of his skin to get there is a big strong boy and will be a huge pick up i predict.

Been going pretty good but we had a very flat game two weeks which showed some old signs.......something the new coach is working on.

That said we'll be in the business end of the season and hopefully can be a bit more consistent than previous years in the month building up to the finals and beyond.

How are kain robins, james coatsworth and shannon milward going up there?

kaino and milly do their job every week. kaino played on the wing first game, then moved to ff and chb on diff occasions. i played next to him against tiwi. milly guns it, consistently usin the ball well. jimmy might move up in the next couple weeks...

Furious Styles... whos is this caddy fella? how old? tall?

His name is Saul Caddy. I think he is about 27-28 yrs old. About 6'2 and 100 kgs. Is super quick and very aggessive. Would be one of the top 3 CHF's in Metro Melbourne. Spent some time at Richmond and the Western Bulldogs. Takes an awesome grab on the lead, exceptional hands overhead.

Has he won any flags Furious and how do you know him so well?

For those who are wondering the outcome of the Tiwi and Districts game, I have news. Tiwi LOST to Districts by around 40 points. Sorry I cant give acurate scores at this moment in time, I think I am still in a bit of shock. 100% credit to the Districts boys, they played a fantastic game of footy.

On a sad note, Trevor Wilson from Tiwi Islands came off in the second half with what looked to be a dislocated shoulder.

Even sadder that supporters boo'd the umpires off.....

Anyway, congrats to the the Districts boys, and if anyone knows the BEAK writter for the NT news, please remind him that Darren Flanagan from Palmerston Magpies CANNOT and WILLNOT ever have the title of #1 NTFL coach while Mago McLean is still in the game.

Mago may be a good coach but his teams seem to let him down at the business end of the season.
