I feel that we start pre - season too early. Which then leads to injuries throughout the next season and the eventual fadeout for the end of the year.

Season is a marathon not a sprint to round 10.

Players should obviously stay in shape from end of season till pre season starts on their own accord anyway.

Come back 2nd Jan 2025 for contact and resume training.

Whats the risk in doing so??? only winning 7 games for the year instead of 11? Lol

We start preseason the same time as every other club who didn't play finals.

What were at scores per quarter? And compared to other teams around us?
wouldn’t know off the top of my head but, off the top if my head, with the exception of some games (ie melbourne) we played better in the first half anecdotally

We were 13th with a record of 11-12 and a percentage of 90% in first halves.
We were 10th with a record of 12-11 and a percentage of 96% in second halves.
So we were perfectly mediocre.

Quarter by quarter:
Q1: 12-10-1 98.8% 7th
Q2: 10-13 83.15% 15th
Q3: 9-14 92.8% 14th
Q4: 10-10-3 100.4% 9th

Second quarter is significantly worse percentage-wise, but seems like we were generally mediocre all quarters.

I think our fitness is a bit of a furphy.

When we play well and run over the top of teams it's good. We did that a few times last season.

When we play poorly and get run over the top of it's bad. We did that a few times last season.

We have a relatively young(ish) list and the younger players tend to tire as the season wears on no matter who they are. Especially if they're playing midfield or KPP.

We also haven't traditionally drafted for endurance runners, so we could have as an elite a running program as we like, but if there's only a couple of guys on the list that have the ceiling over more than a 7/10 as an endurance runner, we'll still hit a talent ceiling. I think our programme is ok, it's our talent and age demographic.

If Tom Scully is a 10/10, when we was the last time we drafted a midfielder / wingman with that kind of ceiling? If Nick Reiwoldt was a 10/10 as a KPP, when was the list time we drafted a player with that kind of ceiling?

It's basically all been within the last 4 years.

i think we will look a lot fitter if we don’t turn the ball over in dumb positions. When that happens forward momentum needs to change to defensive pressure. When it happens a lot forward movement becomes more cautious and we look flat footed.

I looked this time last year and we weren’t getting outrun by other teams we were getting outplayed.

Also this, run smarter.

Need pick 1s for their ceilings

Harry Jones, Mcgrath/Parish types are what we were after there. Or Clarke/Kobe?/Ham/Perkins with more running endurance

Interesting the difference between perspective of being a poor last qtr side and statistically arguably our best. Stats always need a grain*

Also be interesting the relationship of 2km endurance time trials of say top 15 vs finish position

We used an awful lot of energy winning the ball in the midfield but our forward line wasn't able to capitalise. Nor were they able to keep possession. Just an all-round woeful forward line.

There's a universe where our increased speed in Kako, El-Hawli and a repurposed Shiel makes us more dynamic, Jones and Cox turn into marking machines, Ridley and Reid stay fit and we have elite disposal and speed from the back half, Tsatas becomes the clearance beast we've missed since Jobe, and Caddy doesn't stagnate the way all our other great white hopes have.

Probably not this universe though.

Idk if anyone posted this or where to post it so ima just chuck it here ✌️

How dare you show footage of recruiters suggesting players capable of playing multiple positions

Side note, i feel like they see unwin as that high half forward runner in the similar mould to Miers/Close/Lambert/snelling based on this

Forward Guelfi was not pleased when dragged down in that same drill and was heard complaining the second oval at the club’s Hangar “is like concrete”.

Why are there no new EFC galleries of glistening rigs?

I want to marvel at how I can now almost make out Harry Jones when he turns sideways.

Instead we're talking about turds on oval 2
True true.
Personally, I’m looking forward to the Nik Cox weight statement*.

*from memory he said he built up to 90kg last pre season.
