Re: Official GVFL thread

This is a load of crap Smig. I have no doubt that there would be AT LEAST 10 players in Ky's seniors each week willing to give up their $100 so that the club could have a gun on $1000 a game, or two quality imports on $500 or whatever, if it meant you had a better chance of finishing above last or second last. If that means a couple of players miss out on a senior game, well maybe they shouldn't be playing ones in the first place. As for locals - why not try to entice some former locals back with the $$ - Jason Morgan, Andrew Gill, Leigh Ryall, Josh Dicketts, David Newman, Chris Atkins, Andrew Sierakowski, Heath Barnett - all pretty handy young players who aren't at Ky this year and aren't running around in minor leagues either. I know that they each have their own circumstances and reasons for not playing, but $100 a game for your worst 10 players so they can stay around the club? A good culture and a winning mentality keeps people around clubs, not throwing away $100 to every player then being unable to pay possible recruits what others are offering because you're spending $3000 a week on locals. I think it actually works the other way and rewards mediocrity. If it entices some KDL players back to Ky, how much difference are they really going to make against the top teams?
Spot on M.D. . Successeful clubs(like Seymour perhaps) try to look for that magic mix of 75% to 80% of local talent and pay them bugger all to nothing then top up the rest with a couple of well paid guns. I'ts a fine balancing act but if any club can manage to get it right , success will be banging down your door.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Looks like Tat are in a bit more trouble with Linc and Bryce Wellington seeking transfer to Numurkah. Bryce kicked 32 goals last year and Linc has been an interleague rep.

Should we be worried about the future of Tatura in the GV?

Linc was signed up as coach of Numurkah before xmas Rowey so not big or new news there mate.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Rochy
Shepp Swans
Shepp United
Seymour
Echuca
Shepparton

at 1st glance i thought how can shepp and united be in it but once i thought about it you may be right cos euroa and mooroopna have lost players tat and ky are just crap the only change i would prob have is maybe change benalla with shepp, i think shepp is still too young and lost a few but still go ok benalla have lost a few but will still fire, united should be around there somewhere they have lost players also but still have a good core i dont know about their depth though, back on mooroopna having lost a few players they still have a good list and i think will finish up there
i forgot about mansfield they will be competitive but not as strong as previous years due to losing key players who knows its still very early

I though Shepparton had lost a number of key players and are struggling to replace them. Seymour will be the team to beat again.

Re: Official GVFL thread

At the end of the day half of them go out to Lancaster where they still cant win a final. I dont see these guys making an impact in the GVFL.
As long as you can pick an aussie rules football out in a sports store you will be good enough to get a game in a KDL side.
In regards to player payments for Reserves footy, if im not mistaken, KDFL sides pay players?? The standard of Football is no different.
Greg, don't think people aren't well aware of your many alias's on here. Ice Pick, The Fan....should we name them all?
You certainly do have something against Lanky, but why? Do you envy the way in which the club has managed to stay up for so long? Don't start this "Lanky steal all of ky's players once we bring them thru" crap again. You and I know that aint true. You're own brother was one player who chose to leave ky last year. For as long as Lancaster has been sirtuated next to Ky it has gained the players who felt unneeded or who weren't happy at Ky.
Don't look at Lancaster for an explanation.
You mention that as long as you can identify a Sherrin you're able to get a game in the KDL....I guess you should be able to do this yourself then?
KDL get's a bad wrap, but there are alot of quality players who chose to run around in the district league at different times who could play GV footy. You know this as well as I do. Tyson Sidebottom, Andrew Gill, Patty Rattray etc.

i see were your coming from but from what i have heard the players that wanted the system and that included a fair few in that list you mentioned. They didn't want some import coming in getting $500-1000 a game and then pissing off back to melbourne, when half the time there not worth anywere near the cash they are asking for anyway.

also if i remember right ky also have room for 5 payed players in there system so there is money to get the recruits and i have no doubt they have talked to all the players on that list but they all have there own reasons and it is not to do with cash.

Eg the first two Jason Morgan and Andrew Gill are both living in melbourne and wanting to test themselves at VFL level, cant help that

Re: Official GVFL thread

The swans must of offered Looby a heap of money to change his mind about coming back and playing with his brother at tat
Hardly a surprise, he sounds like a club jumper in the article.

"Looby signed with Port Melbourne in the Victorian Football League, but a change of heart led him back to the Port Adelaide Magpies in the South Australian National Football League, where he was signed up for two years before ultimately deciding to come home".

So he's already been signed twice for his footy this year and pulled the pin both times! Then he goes and trains at Tat and then off to Shepparton Swans.

Where will he be next week?

Out of the 5 paid players, 3 of them would be the playing coaches wouldnt they? Or is that on top of them? Can't agree more about Gill and Morgan that will be good for the club in the long run hopefully when they return.

Shane,

I never metioned Lancaster steal all of Kyabrams players, I did say half of the players that leave Ky go to Lancaster. I cant recall any player going to Lancaster that would actually assist Ky 1's in playing finals in the last 10 years, Maybe IQ? So I would never argue "Lanky steal all of ky's players once we bring them thru", as you mentioned. Lancaster are a tight group, this is compounded by the fact that several of these players have something in common as you mentioned, they "dont believe they feel wanted by Kyabram", as you would know. Which I find quite sad, as a club is only what you make it.
The players that mature from the KDL do test themselves at the GVL level which is great, the Gills, Browns, Sideys, Rattrays.
I never said there wasnt decent players in the KDL, I did say though it is very easy to play in the KDL. Having said that, it has been pretty easy to get a game for Ky 1's the last couple of years aswell.
As for my thoughts on Lancaster. I supported Lancaster well before I knew where Ky was. Players that leave Ky and then slag the club are the ones that leave a sour taste in my mouth, unfortunately many of them play at Lancaster.
Concerning my "aliases" I am sure Icepick would be laughing for as like me, you and these people you talk of have no idea who he is. I wish I could take the credit for the Gav Canute whisper as it was right up there. Well done Pick!

yeah your right shepp have lost a few of their better players and i dont think will be in the top teams, they have a group of young players that can play but wont be able to take them all the way they will need to replace who they have lost to really be competitive

maybe not this year or even the next, but its just plain rude!

im not the denieing they were powerhouses as you say in the 90s and they have respect for that but at this current time they are crap and until they get better they will continue to be crap

Re: Official GVFL thread

lamaro may be playing at euroa but does euroa want him to play. was told gleeson didnt want him back

Re: Official GVFL thread

Do not ever bag the District Leagues. Poor form! Why do many people in the GVFL see themselves as being the next best thing to the AFL? Sure there are some great players in the GV, but I am sure district league teams could give many GV teams a scare and may even beat some of them. Look at teams like Stanhope when they were at their prime!

Pick out a footy in a shop, what a joke! You have no idea. We aren't Auskick mate!

Re: Official GVFL thread

Gonna have a shot too...My prediction is based on the transfer list as well as last years finishes

Swans - Biggest recruiter
United - Hardly lost any senior players and gained Davies, not sure about this Cowman though?
Seymour - Lost a few talls, but their depth from last years 2's will help them remail competitive
Rochy - Influx of locals retrning should help them play finals, don't know how good these guys are though
Echuca - Should be competitive - Don't think theyv lost or gained much but with the standard of GV decreasing, they should be better for it
Benalla
Euroa
Mooropna
Mansfield
- Hard to seperate these 4 as they have still got some matchwinners and could finish b/ween 5th and 9th
Shepp Bears - Nothing gained, lost a lot of depth. But should remain competitive due to their 3rds guns
Kyabram - Can't see them winning more than 2-4 games. Not a fan of the 3 player-coach system. Need a proven leader with experience to coach them
Tatura - In for a looooong, looooooooooooong year. 15 goal plus losses will be the norm. Might not even field a 2's side regularly. Unfortunate situation

i think you will find the ruckman cowman from united wont be playing there this year and they have actually lost a few senior players being steve hazelman injured schimer injured pelvis gillespie and bovalina, but they have recruited well in davies and kept most of their good players
i agree with everything you have said about all the other teams inparticularly rochy i think you will find they will be very strong this year and could go very close

Hope you can help me Shmurf. Has Heath Hopwood resigned with anyone in the Ams. I'm told that the Xavs have lost a fair few.

Thanks for that. Apparently Singhy was going to sign up with Xavs but is CV isnt the best and he absolutely hates working.

Buy the sounds of things earns enough throughout the footy season to keep him satisfied.
