pimp i dont understand what your trying to say.

scribe is a rapper fullstop, rap is not a part of hip hop.

and while scribe is a good rapper, alot of his success can be attributed to P Money, who is one of the best dj/producers and provides scribe with some awesome beats e.g the dreaming beat

if you want to check out some good new zealand rappers check out Mareko and his crew decepticonz, and download anything you find of con psy's

Mostly old stuff - and it makes my blood boil when I hear a cover of a classic song and the kids today think the band are bloody brilliant for coming up with such a goodc song and they will never have heard of the original or the original artist. You try and educate them and they hate the old version.

Classic example - The Fugees - Killing Me Softly - totally awesome song written all about the great Don McLean sung by Roberta Flack originally. Not the damn fugees!!!!

I've never understood why everyone is so against bands doing covers of old songs yet no one minds when movies get remade by completely different people. If a band can do a good cover of an old song good luck to them. Alot of the time if a cover is good it'll encourage you to find out who originally sang it.

I have no problems with covers with a few exceptions:

1) When a band/artist's first hit is a cover. Anyone can do a cover. A band/artist should at least prove themselves as bonafide artists first. It seems record execs take the easy option and get a band to do a cover and mass market it to f*** to get them off the ground. Lame.

To a lesser extent:

2) When a cover is the same as the original. No point. Covers should provide something new. Hendrix's Watchtower and The Lemonhead's Mrs Robinson are two good examples, Gwyneth Paltrow's Betty Davis Eyes is not.

3) Some songs just shouldn't be covered. Some songs are just two good and can't be eclipsed. The best covers are often of songs that are undervalued. Gems that people dig up and make them more popular the second time around. Elvis's Little Less Coversation and The Screaming Jet's Eve of Destruction are good examples. Covering standards like Smells Like Teen Spirit and Under the Bridge is a waste of time. Thankfully that hasn't heppened yet, but plenty of songs that shouldn't have been covered ahve - I just can't think of any.

All Saints had a bit of chart success with Under the Bridge and I'm sure Teen Spirit has been done as well.

I like both.

I listen to the same band or bands over and over then will go back in my collection and play something I haven't played in a while. Depends how I am feeling at the time. As long as I can get up and groove to it or sing loudly along with it (or both of course) its usually the right choice

I like to keep my eye on new Australian bands coming through and other new non commercial stuff. I do like the sound of some of what I am hearing on the radio right now so it must be time to buy some new music to add to the collection

Yes. I remember now. Cringe. At least it was different and targeted a completely different demographic.

I mind when movies are re-made!! I was fairly vocal around the place about the re-make of Ocean's Eleven in particular. In most cases the originals are better, even if they've dated a little bit.

Well I agree really, some covers are crap, but I've heard some awesome Beach Boys covers!! Sometimes too, hearing a cover can help you re-discover a song/group you might have forgotten about!!

Anyways, my answer to the poll is old music mostly. I do enjoy a bit of newish music but I prefer the classics. :D

Here here, the Randy Rhoads (RIP) solo still stacks up as one of the greatest masterpieces on the electric twanger. Love the rattle at the start... Ozzy will be BIGGER when he passes on IMHO. Crazy but true.

Old music for me thanx. Doof Doof noize is a waste of time.

"Is She Really Going Out With Him?" covered by Kid Courageous.

I saw it on TV this morning. Everything that is wrong in the music industry, neatly packaged in this one three minute filmclip. The song is done in a punk-pop way, think of Alien Ant Farm and their cover of that Michael Jackson song. They've been made up to appeal to the same kids who buy Good Charlotte records. The filmclip is one of those wacky and humourous ones, and as an added bonus, it has Bec Cartwright and the bloke who does the Sandman as the stars of the clip.

On the good side though, this band will be forgotten by next weekend.

It is not so much that I am against covers, it is more the fact that the youth hearing the songs think that it is an original and a classic song has the credit given to the band covering it not the original artist. I know so many kids who thought Madonna's American Pie was an original!!!!
