AFL club doctors have a lot more data on their players as well. Amongst other medical data, they conduct flat line tests on the players periodically to identify any potential issues.

For example, with Angus Brayshaw they would do some testing with him after he was drafted so that they had initial flat line details available. Then, after each concussion, the doctors would have done more testing and assessed when he was back to that flatline and he could resume.

As the number of concussions increased, this flat line would have been higher due to his past issues and that would have been taken into consideration to medically retire him because those new flatline levels were of concern to the medicos and the league.

The issue for Brayshaw was that his last lot of brain scanning identified significant changes from his previous round of tests. The drs could clearly see damage to his brain that wasn’t present before

I am siding with Oraaaaazio for the time being.

Unlike his predecessors, we need to see Dillon break out of the mould and prove himself with action which benefits grassroots football.

Gil would say that they are giving X million this year and then the next year would say they are giving X million (which included pretty much all of the money promised the previous year which had not been disbursed plus a bit more). Most of the money was earmarked for admin hubs and the Under 18 comp anyway which really wasn't beneficial for the majority.

Deeds not words is how we should judge him.

Maybe, just what I took away from what he said. Didn't sound overly promising
Had the pleasure of a couple of schooners with him at my footy clubs lunch and he couldn't believe the backlash over the way clubs are treated by VFL and Coates league clubs and he promised to take it on board . He comes from local footy , so prepared to give him a chance

Again we had a player trying to get on a VFL list, but was told he had to player a higher grade. Utter BS by these VFL clubs.

One thing the concussion protocols have done is raise some more awareness on it than it’s had previously. The trainers at our club are now completing extra training specifically around concussion. We also have a sports doc that we will send any players with a possible concussion directly to test them and make sure they are ok. Trainers won’t be making the decision.
No real extra cost at all to the club but provides a much better chance of making sure the players are safe to continue playing into the future.

In my experience this approach is across the board in clubland - it won’t stop some players hiding stuff but it makes it a lot harder to do so if the policy is that you have to pass concussion protocols administered by a doctor/physio & have then a medical clearance before you even train.
Clubs would be dumb not to follow the policy - even so they won’t be completely protected but like all litigious circumstances it’s a big help to be able to show that you’ve mitigated whatever’s in your control.

It is interesting the 2 v 3 week stand down . It can’t be based on medical advice . Such advice would be the same for all levels , irrespective of the availability of professional testing and advice .
And testing and advice should not be governed by “days”.
This should be across all sports. It leaves the AFL open to litigation if , for example , an AFL player sustained a head injury after returning 2 weeks.
As a health care professional who has tried to keep up with concussion testing , via coaching courses and professional education , there is no way I would sign off on any player . That is 3 weeks or not . 21 days is an arbitrary number , based on what ? Do brain injuries work in 7 day blocks ?
So , what I am saying is , return to play after concussion is not governed by days . That is possibly the worst way to legislate it.
It is in fact the easy way .

Needa to understand women’s football is shrinking quickly. The novelty has worn off and drop off rate is getting larger.
The requirements to even set up a womens team are pretty high. From memory you need to submit a list of 40+ players. Then COVID smashed participant numbers in ALL sports M & F, so AFL was going to get smashed more. Another factor is the F athletes from other sports that joined the womens league for the $$ found out the hard way that it is a tough game to play. Injuries has seen a big drop of F players at the top level. Same thing would happen at club level - looks great fun from the boundary but if you haven't done the work, the body will fail. Very hard financially to start up a club, particularly when the Govt funding runs out. The AFL got massive govt $$ to promote girls in sport, no doubt it all didn't find it's way to country start ups.

You're clubs extremely lucky... wonder how many other clubs are in this situation?? Most struggle just to get trainer's who can commit to the full season.

It’s a huge boost for the tourism towns to get the Easter match every year. There’s thousands of extra people in town and they can make the most of it. Just wondering do the clubs they play get any financial incentive seeing they don’t get the same opportunity and the other clubs are making a fortune off them making the trip.

The Roos are yet to announce a reserves coach which makes me think they’ll be forfeiting a lot of games this year. Round 1 they’ll be fine with a lot of ex players back in the area for Easter and will chuck a jumper on to help with numbers but following rounds they’ll struggle to fill a side especially if the rumours are true that they had to cancel a practice match with Lavington due to having no numbers 🤷‍♂️

Do you really need to announce a Ressies Coach?
Hopefully you are wrong RR on the forfeits.
Be a shame if that had to happen

Overheard a couple gentlemen down the cricket mention that Rovers had 12 thirds/ ring ins play in the seconds praccy match. Obviously you rest afew in the top end of the list this time of year, but surely they didn't have that many out? Abit worrying when you add that to the rumours of Yarra being pretty light on in the bottom part of the squad.. Are the days of the seconds comp about cooked?

Seconds footy needs a total revamp to keep it going.
How it would work is anyone’s guess
