I'm betting most of the interview will be devoted to the 1971 GF and his failing to break the 150 goal record,

I dunno, how many other Fullbacks have managed to kick 150 goals in a season. Must have been able to run like Lewis Jetta in his youth to do that from FB. :D

I don't recall his opponent often kicking any on him either. No surprise he's the best fullback ever!

Remember watching him stick that fat arse out to out manoeuvre his opponent and then kicking those flat punt goals. Genius.

Anyone else find him a little sanctimonious vis-a-vis the art of the set-shot and today's players?

If the likes of Pavlich, Cloke, Schulz, Walker and Riewoldt never ventured more than 20-30m from goal at any one time they'd probably never miss either.

It's one thing to bang on about developing a routine and sticking to it a la a golf swing, but surely you have to factor in all the running, second and third efforts modern players put in before lining up.

Has to have a effect when you're gassed and you're expected to dead-eye it within 20 seconds.

Actually I thought the part about the parallel between cricket, with Taylor equalling the 334 no Don Bradman record. And his football record equalled and how it is in a sense RIGHT for history. Was a really good insight.

Just think how every bloke and his dog would have told him over and over it is a shame/waste he didn't get 151 and break the record."he should have" .. "he deserved to" .. "he was robbed"... etc

He never felt that way! He would think all those people wishing he'd broken it, are thinking of it in the wrong way; In the wrong spirit.

tribey. No offense but his record is deserved of lecturing the modern day footballer on their failings. And he wasn't talking about full forwards so much as IMO the state of the game sees that midfielders also have set shots now, and his view is they are not disciplined enough with their technique. Valid.
