A nightclub’s CCTV footage which includes Geelong midfielder Tanner Bruhn is expected to form a key part into the investigation of an alleged sexual assault.

The Herald Sun can reveal Bruhn and his friends were on a night out in Geelong on February 4 last year, just hours before the alleged incident occurred.

The group visited retro venue Beavs Bar on Little Malop St and controversial nightclub Bloom on Moorabool St.

Tanner Bruhn was interviewed by detectives last month.

Victoria Police confirmed an alleged sexual assault took place in Belmont — a suburb of Geelong — on February 5.

Bruhn and his mate were interviewed by detectives last month about their knowledge of the incident.

The young gun was spoken to by the Sexual Offences and Child Investigation Team on September 26, a day after he celebrated Wacky Wednesday with his teammates.

The Herald Sun has been told police requested CCTV footage from Bloom following the incident on February 5.

Police regularly use CCTV footage as part of criminal investigations, whether it is to identify offenders or verify witness statements.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the pair was not arrested and were free to go after the interview.

“Police have interviewed two men as part of an investigation into an alleged sexual assault in February 2023,” she said.

“The men were released pending further investigation into the matter.”

AFL spokesman Jay Allen said the AFL was aware of the matter.

“As it is a Victoria Police investigation, we are not in a position to make any further comment at this time,” he said.

Bruhn is currently on a trip in the US with a group of fellow AFL players including Jack Ginnivan, Matt Guelfi, Jye Caldwell and Archie Perkins.

On Thursday, Guelfi posted a photo of Tanner in a pool with the caption: “Been stuck worse places (sic)” and tagged the location as Austin, Texas.

Bruhn signed a two-year contract extension with Geelong in June, tying him to the club until the end of 2027.

Geelong Football Club was contacted for comment.

Is this a Victoria Police investigation? Or a Geelong Police investigation? If the former, Bruhn is likely to do 10 years +. If the latter, the investigation is likely to find Bruhn is a great bloke and was the hero of the story, stopping at a park to play footy with kids on his way home from the nightclub at 8am.

I knew something was a lil fishy with him.

Guaranteed he’s a guy that eats cereal with no milk. It’s a sign.

All those sports you’ve mentioned have been a competition for decades longer than AFLW

You find womens tennis, swimming, womens baketball, cricket watchable.

Olypmic games Aust women swimmers out perform men. But they are not faster. Boring as batshit to me. I'm not a rusted on tennis watcher, but Aust Open men play 5 sets women 3. (for equal prize money)

Lauren Jackson was great but the Boomers are taller, faster, higher scoring than womens basketball. huge gap b/n deminaur and say, Barty

Both on FTA TV but I watch a half or 2 of the NBL. I used to watch NBA & NBL.

I don't watch soccer but saw the Matildas coupla years ago, on TV.....huge gap with the EPL

I do watch more surfing. Where athletes body height isn't crucial. And the female surfing standard is rising. Tahitian woman charged big dangerous surf, but still not on the level with the guy who won it.
Men hit golf balls longer. huge gap
I don't watch cricket much, except 5 day mens tests in summer. BBL is a snorefest unless Glen Maxwell is batting....huge gap with one WBBL game I saw

I like the fact RFC have a chicks team, in a 7 year old comp, playing in the off season. The whole team lucky to be getting Dusty's $million in wage. Sarah Hosking what a funny, feisty ****, On footy ability Mon Conti, Ellie McKenzie & Brennan deserve more than Kmac, Dow, Cumberland. Tigers, Playing in long sleeves at punt road is flash back to a bygone era
I started watching late 60s, at the G.
I will watch anything with a richmond jumper on. No other club. My local team are the tweed tigers, The girls/women start Saturday, at 10. Mens at 12 & 2. for the last few years.

That’s a matter of opinion though right. For you it’s a too hard of a sell but for a ten-sixteen year old girl it’s perhaps empowering

I’d take a stab at suggesting perhaps you’re not in the leading target market the AFLW is aiming themselves at

In any case the standard has clearly increased. I’ve found a majority of our games very watchable this year

I have progressed from watching zero AFLW to now watching majority of the Tiger games, which I enjoy. Conti, McKenzie and Sheerin are great to watch.

The issue they need to overcome is the defensive strategies. They play a similar style to the men of guarding space and getting numbers back, which makes scoring nigh on impossible.

That’s because the men can kick over defensive zones with goals from outside 50m. They can transition the ball to beat defensive zones via longer kicks, quicker running and basically greater skill levels at the moment. They can also take contested marks a lot more often resulting in scores.

Women can follow instruction as well as men (probably better). So their ability to set up defensive zones and play to coach instruction is every bit as good as the men, meaning that just because the standard is lower, the defensive structures are every bit as good.

The answer? I don’t know. Maybe smaller grounds. Maybe less players on field. Maybe rules to prevent ‘zone’ defence and force individual match-ups?

The scoring will increase as the standard continues to get better, but I feel intervention is needed before then to prevent these defensive grinds that turn people away.

I felt like the womens game had been slowly moving past the heavily defensive coached teams of the first couple of seasons but these mid weeks games has at times forced coaches to revert back to that in order to win games when the players are on their 3rd game in two weeks and are struggling to execute a more offensive game plan.

The biggest problem I feel is with the over saturation of teams compared to the talent available, because whilst the standard isn't to some people's liking, if you watch the better teams, especially North this year, then it's a far better quality than if you were to watch the teams languishing at the bottom of the ladder. There's just no way to fix this as the AFL aren't going to get rid of teams now.
Another issue I find is the application of the rules by the umpires, definitely seems like there's a priority in letting the play continue on so Holding the Ball is only called when it's a pretty obvious chase down tackle and there's barely any emphasis on legal disposals, to the detriment of improving the skills and adds to the over congested at times game.

The games are already shorter (17min quarters) and involve less players on the field (16) compared to the men so the AFL were at least proactive there.

melbourne need a womens NRL side, would even watch that from time to time
love watching womens golf compared to mens, apart from the aesthetics of the female form obviously being an advantage

i find the men yes they do have an advantage power wise off the tee but 2nd shot onwards imo is almost, almost =
skill level, touch, feel, instinct etc 230mtrs from green n closer is on a par with men, women golfers apart from the odd few
are more gracious as well

back in the heyday id of crawled 3kay over broken glass to get within a 1 wood of some of the cuties teeing it up now
