Geelong the new Carlton

View attachment 2188525

When you see something like this that does not appear to make any sense, it is because it doesn't make sense.

Joel Selwood is not a money lender. He was a highly paid player taking "unders" to play for Geelong, apparently. So he is automatically in a high risk category to be taking payments or benefits outside the salary cap. And this of course would be indicative of the types of ways that was being done. I presume this one has only come out due to the sponsor's otherwise hidden financial trasactions being revealed in court.

It talks about Selwood not knowing about this guys fraudulent activities, but it's irrelevant because the actual transaction of $100k loan then repayment from the guy involved with the sponsor it would be fair to say that this has only come about due to the sponsor relationship with the club and should be declared income. If someone wanted to pay a player outside the cap, this is 100% a way you could go about doing it.

Throw the book at him I say. Not bothered by which book but preferably hard cover with a lot of pages.

The ironic thing about gobshyte like this is that those who will laugh/like/love this post (and yes, you'll get some cheap laughs from some other imbeciles, no doubt about it) will also be the first to cry out "but all that Welcome stuff is so divisive".

Most people are sick to death of these ceremonies. Don’t over analyse the motives or underlying reasons … people are just jack of them.

No one with half a brain should be out drinking in Northbridge. It's ****ed. Mind you, there's not much to do in Perth at night so I suppose it's slim pickings.

I went out there one night and on closing, some wiry Aboriginal kid comes up to me in the middle of the street and goes "ay mate, you want a fight?" and I'm like "umm, no, not really!".

Then this other white guy comes up to him and goes "ay, i'll have ya" and they started throwing punches. Such a ****ed place.
So who won the fight?

It's not my job to bleed for the blacks or any other minority in our country. Not offended by the meme at all personally, just a bit disappointed that fellow Tiger supporters need to resort to racist stuff when so many of our great champions have been indigenous, amongst other reasons.

Having the chance to live overseas at various times during my life has made me very proud of my country. I'd be responding the same way and calling it out if someone came in here and started bagging the Last Post for being a waste of time, or made heroes out of deadshits who wants to yell out during the minute of silence.

The joke is because Uncle Colin seems to be in every corner of the country and at every public event. The same meme would appear if it was a white person singing the National Anthem at every public event. The meme isn’t because he’s indigenous, it’s because he’s everywhere.

I mean he’s not though. He does the Welcome to Country at major events in Victoria and that’s it really

He does every one because he’s the appointed elder to do them

This is like complaining that there’s a politician talking at media conferences in Canberra. It’s literally their job

I used to fly Royal Brunei quite often, normally long flights to the UK. I am not religious, let alone muslim. Prior to each flight everything would stop for this short prayer:

I see only good and reassuring thoughts being expressed in this prayer. I never thought, give me a break, I have heard this a hundred times before. I thought this is a good opportunity for me to consider what I am doing here, and what is about to take place, and to reflect upon the benefit of all previous journeys I have taken.

I have thoughts along similar lines when I hear the welcome to country ceremony. Not one word ever expresses anything but friendly, pleasing thoughts.

In a crazy world where our value system currently says 1 bitcoin is worth a lot more to a person than 10 acres of forest that is not allowed to be developed, I find the thoughts that enter my mind during the welcome to country ceremonies reassuring. Amongst other things the ceremony tells me that had I wandered onto these lands a lost and lonely refugee from Europe(or aywhere else), I would have been welcomed by the people who inhabited the place. It is salient that the portion of the political spectrum who might object most to this ceremony are those who themselves are not so welcoming to people of other lands. The Paulineites of the world.

If the ceremony was forced upon me 24/7, if it stopped me from sleeping, or hindered my path in life, then I might object to it. But it isn't, and it doesn't.

I have gone a step further. I run a little Airbnb out of what used to be my garage. It provides my humble income. Each time guests arrive, I welcome them, and tell them about the place they are about to occupy, and explain the surrounds, and the creatures who also occupy or visit the property. I know this is very popular with my guests, because I get to read their reviews. Guess where I learned to do that?

they were doing em for every damn finals game. at one point it felt like the afl was doing them every week for normal games too

I'm a fan of it but less is more

leave it for indigenous round only where it feels special and not overdone

That was the original intention (from indigenous elders), but now done too much, a tick a box D&I exercise by the afl.

You should fly Avianca (National Airline of Colombia). In addition to the women being way hotter than in Brunei, their in flight video used to have footage of a guy wearing a Richmond jumper paragliding off the side of a mountain. I was like Leo di Caprio
