I can accept that.
I think the rule or nonrule needs to be changed ASAP.
For the time being it does look like he has done nothing wrong, which in itself is the real problem. It needs to change so that he is doing something wrong.
Agree about the personal hate Greene is copping. he's just tweaking the rules for his own (and team's) advtantage.
I reckon the afl will tweak the rules post season to catch this campaigner out who is cunningly exploiting them

It happened all the time when I was growing up, you got the red tram tracks and that was it. Imagine a kid trying to take a screamer in the under 10s?

Of course I'd feel differently if he broke one of our players jaws. In that case he would have made illegal high contact and damaged one of our players. He'd be suspended. Similarly Dustin Martin's "Don't argue" is perfectly fine but if he broke a players jaw by getting him high then there would be trouble.

Yes perhaps... So the following would be outlawed? I get what you're saying but contact to the lower legs in the soccer style tackle is outlawed already. And high contact is outlawed.

I didn't see it as a kick. If you did then fair enough. I don't want to see players "kicking" on the field. However, we only have to look at our very own Jack Riewoldt to see a similar "kicking" style action the last weekend gone. (And I've noticed he's been doing it more frequently as he attempts to contend with two or more opponents.

Perhaps these guys just have a higher footy IQ and are exploiting the rules as they see fit. You can't put a hand in another players back for some reason so smart players are using other tools to their advantage.

Yes he was in trouble last year because he got Dalhouse in the face. It also wasn't a marking contest. Once again, we have a rule for high contact.

If they want to bring in that rule then ok. I actually see that point. But I don't see why people are so harsh on Greene, calling him a dog and a cheat etc. It's actually fair play what he's doing.

Can anyone actually explain why the AFL created a rule where you couldn't touch another player in their back with your hands? They forced the decision onto players like Greene who don't want to merely play for a free kick. They have said you are only allowed to elbow or knee an opponent but definitely not hands. How is that about safety then?
Comparing an open hand to the chest to a full on kick to 'who cares what party of the body'? o_O

That's just it though. He was kicking out. Kicking. Not protecting space, not bracing himself. KICKING. Studs first. Starting with a bent knee and extending his boot towards the opposition studs first. Or standing on one foot, kicking a bloke in the chest to push him out of the drop zone and taking a chest mark. And just quietly, he was fined for kicking Luke Dalhouse in the face last year.
The idiot looking at is an idiot ! Typical AFL , I’m sure wankley will have something to say

What's with the melts over Toby Greene? He didn't push and he didn't get his opponent high.

I'm only 30 so didn't grow up playing footy in the magical unicorn days of the 80s that every old campaigner talks about as if it was decent standard of footy...but come on....Even I grew up with that being fine. You can knee a guy in the back of the head as you take a huge grab or put your boots on the guys head. And you've always been able to protect the drop of the ball with your boots. As long as you don't kick out or cop the guy in the face it's perfectly fine. If you don't want your stop marks to sting in the shower quit playing footy or get some awareness.

Too many letting their dislike for the individual cloud their judgment. Toby Greene is a campaigner but he's fine in this case. If the AFL want a less "dangerous action" they can reinstate the ability for players to push with the hands. They wanted it to be elbows and boots only for some bizarre reason so cop it.

bullshit, it's never been ok to sit under a handball or a mark and intentionally kick someone in the face or guts

Still f***ing sickened they played fake crowd noises and the Giants theme song every time after they scored. It was our home game.
