And to think that there was a rule brought in during the pre-season comp to stop players remonstrating, and administered to it's max against Richmond in Round 1, and spoken of glowingly in the media for it's potential to spill down to lower comps and reduce umpire abuse, yet now the umps have apparently decided that they don't mind the abuse.

I’d rather see a rule brought in that penalises players who ask for frees, feign for frees or play for frees. The whole game is obsessed with the umpires.
Gladly it doesn’t seem to have infected junior footy …yet. Enjoyed watching a game last weekend - maybe 5-10 free kicks paid for the entire game, no one complained and the better team won and the sun came up on Monday…
