heard dimma on 3aw saying he wants coaches to be outside the salary cap

genius move that would heavily benefit us as the richest victorian club.. we could get all the best coaches and the minnow clubs can suck eggs

I think Caro has mentioned that the AFL has suggested to the clubs that half the senior coaches salary be outside the cap, but basically all the poorer clubs and ones with young head coaches said no.

pies fans think they get robbed every week

I sat level 4 Sunday 4 rows back from front of stand so could see whole game properly , and as a neutral the umpiring was a disgrace in the fact it reminded of one our games , lolingwood got shit load of frees but then exact same thing happens with hawks they got nothing, I seriously don’t get how people can say umps don’t favour certain sides .

‘Jezza’ apparently the best forward in the comp according to Lloydy. 8 goals in 5 games against top-8 teams, and 30 goals in 7 games against bottom-10 teams.

And FWIW against top-7 teams it’s 2 goals in 4 games and 36 goals in 8 games against bottom-11 teams.

Jezza is exactly the type of player on the Cats list as to why they dominate H&A but lose finals. When the heat is really on and he’s needed to stand up he’s almost always unsighted as his whole game is based on running forward of the ball towards goal… which is great when winning but not so great in most finals … here is his finals record:

2016 QF. Kicks 4 goals in a 6-goal win
2016 PF. 5 touches and goalless in loss to Dogs.

2017 QF. 7 touches and goalless in loss to Crows

2018 EF. 14 touches and 2 goals in 49-point win.
2018 SF. 1 goal in loss to Pies

2019 EF. 25 touches and 2 goals in 10-goal win
2019 SF. 16 touches and 3 goals in 3-point win (a good game from Jezza)
2019 PF. 3 goals in close win (good game)
2019 GF. 1 goal in loss

2021 QF: 10 touches and 1 goal in loss to Port
2021 SF. 14 touches and 2 goals in easy win.
2021 PF. 4 touches and 2 goals in heavy loss

So in finals wins it’s 16-goals from 6 games.

In finals losses it’s 5-goals from 6 games.

Yet Jezza is going to be their answer come finals … hmmmmm. He has time to answer his reputation as a downhill skier … but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Can't believe there are people in the media who are endorsing how Ginnivan plays
I thought we were supposed to be protecting the head!

These guys deliberately seek contact to the head, it’s counterproductive.

What about Selwood: he’s got various methods, but the one where he lifts his oiled-up arms forcing the tacklers arms up to his neck is good at getting out of a tackle but the resulting head high contact is initiated completely by him.

Without the lift the tackle stays around the arms. It’s him causing the high contact. That’s hundreds of free kicks he should never have got.

Apparently dropping at the knees in any situation where you are in possession and anticipating a tackle is "challenging opponents to tackle correctly.” No it isn’t, it is voluntarily taking high contact. Nobody should ever be awarded a free kick for an infringement they have chosen to make happen. What should be happening in all of those scenarios where he is voluntarily going to ground in possession is his prior opportunity has been used and if tackled, even high, he should have holding the ball paid against him.

It was good to see particularly the one where Jiath tackled him adjudicated half correctly at least. No high contact free kick. Fully correctly would be holding the ball.

doesn't that campaigner have like 500 more free kicks than the next in line

Sometimes he, and others, but especially him, it's not actually dropping,, and Fly admitted it, they teach the players to stay low. So he picks up the ball, stays low, and when the tackler arrives, he drives his body head first towards the tackler, and lifts the arm if he feels the contact isn't high enough.
We can all see what he's doing, including the umps. The rule needs tweaking again. The free kicks, at least one, probably should have been paid on the weekend. Happy they weren't and hopefully the rule is clarified as if you drive low towards the tackler, no free.

It’s a simple rule adjustment. If you initiate high contact (duck, lower the knees, shrug the arm, drive the head etc…) and get tackled, then no matter if high, in the back or no prior, if you don’t dispose of it successfully it’s HTB. Coaches and players will stop doing it immediately as not only do they no longer get frees, they give one away.

That is the rule already it’s just very hard to adjudicate in the moment whether a player has done those things on purpose or are just trying to win the ball
