Ten years later and nobody can tell those Essendon kids what was put into their bodies.

Essendon should have been kicked out of the competition and all those involved banned for life.
So 17 teams and a bye where Essendon used to be?
I'll take the win.

Why not Ban gold coast, and Melbourne they were balls deep with dank. Not to mention cats flags question marks

Look as much as it’s been monumentally fantastic to watch that club implode.
Have to agree with hird in this instance, they definitely did throw them under the bus, afl had essentially offered Essendon an easy out at the beginning but they dug their heels in.
It’s obvious that afl will stop at nothing to protect their name, and that includes torching a champion of the game.

All in all, afl/Essendon, their all guilty to some extent in my opinion, hill and his cronies should’ve copped more for what transpired.

So what Essendon was up to was business as usual was it?

Bit rich a cheat calling others liars. You're in fantasy land if you believe Hird had no idea.

All involved should've been thrown out for good. They got off lightly imo.

Agree tv is were the money is, but what would be the ratings of a GC v Giants game?
It's not about Suns vs Giants - that's one match per season. It's about having 9 games per weekend rather than 8.

That's about 12% more footy each weekend to sell to a TV deal, which could mean that the current $650M/year deal might have only been about $580M without that extra match. The gap more than makes up for the cost of running the two clubs, and worth the punt given their growing regions. That extra money just not exist in AFL footy without them.

And apart from their first couple of seasons, both teams are hardly unwatchable too. That said, I'm glad I don't support the miserable campaigners.

Old mate can deduct 3 dank flags if he's getting the record straight

Agree that all coaches and doctors should have got life ban, think players copped a decent whack and have done their time.

AFL knew early on what was going on there and tried to bury the story, they should all have been kicked out on their ass too.

Your reasoning is correct.

The AFL is trying to grow the audience, but I'm not too sure how successfully.

I don't have the answer, but it would be interesting to know what percentage of the AFL following public watch all 9 games. Or 8, or 7, etc.

Personally, I struggle to watch other games unless they have a direct impact on our position on the ladder. Even then, probably only the last quarter if it's close. And occasionally games involving Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon for a laugh.

Brisbane is the other team I am happy to watch (the other big cats). They play a good style of football eventually I think they will end up like Sydney and be sustainable

This despite crying innocent... This for mine was always the sticking point. Also the 40 odd soft tissue injuries they copped that year. For all the reporting on it the media did, not once did that get a mention. Something was going on that was "out of the ordinary"

I smell a massive cover up

Sports INTEGRITY Australia riiiight. Integrity being the operative word lol

Release ALL the documents if you have ANY integrity at all. If I was one of the players or families I'd want EVERYTHING released and put on the table. Then we can see who did what, who said what and wtf actually went down.

Show some ****ing INTEGRITY!

From memory didn’t Essendon continually say that they wanted to disclose everything so that they could clear their name What reason do they have now to want to withhold information and why aren’t the media highlighting this change

I watch a qtr or so of games we are not involved in. And RFC and pies have big supporter bases obviously our games would be outrating Suns & GWS games. So in the new TV deal RFC & CFC ratings are underpinning the deal. Or high rating timeslots.

Swans, GWS have been in the GF recently. So NSW is going OK. Lions have been up for a few years too. Looks like the coach has survived the Hawks era scandal.
Suns the basket case. If they had on field success people would start following them. I knew AFL fans who chipped in for a suns membership just to support them. Suns players do visit NNSW.

Can they back up the win vs RFC?

nah.

Seemed like Andy & Gil tried to manipulate an ASADA investigation.
And like the punishments to Carlton for salary cap cheating. Carlton & Essadon suffered years of pain. Lack of success.

Cronulla Sharks had no one from the NRL interfering. Coach took a year ban but they won a flag in 2016. WADA was ruling on EFC the same year.

Gale still on the short list for the AFL job. If he wants it and gets it, goes with my blessing. New Prez & CEO will be innaresting

Bless me father for I have sinned.
I got pished andI got pinned
and god cant help the state I'm in.
I thought he had been ruled out - told he needed to do 'an apprenticeship' - ie become indoctrinated.

Get a copy of Michael Warners book "the Boys club". There's a reason he's no longer covering the AFL too much these days.

Well looks like Round 1 win is guaranteed now since Williams is also gone. $1.68 is a steal.
