If Rance was allowed to defend like sos, jbrown wouldn't be touching the ball.

Cotchin was unplayable before the no diving on the ball rule / sliding was introduced. Would be breaking blacks legs and Dylan shields aka

You could get Soldo belting people with 2001 rules
Cotchin is a modern great but he’d be lining up against Voss who at the very least matches him for hardness at the footy

And I love Soldo but neither Clark Keating or Jamie Charman could ever be called soft at the contest

When it comes to ruckmen you can really see the influence of what the Lions prioritised in that position in the way we’ve gone about building our list

Voss was a boss but he'd be lining up on a three time norm smith medal winner with cotchin who won brownlows at 21 before rules changes and prime prestia by

I Love our players, but that Lions midfield group was as talented a mid group as you will find

Cotchin - Voss
Prestia - Lappin
Dusty - Black
Edwards - Acker
Lambert - Power

I'm not sure our mids beat theirs on ability alone TBH...

Riewoldt & T.Lynch would make Leppitsch and Michael look plain average. Our forwards would make them run up and down the ground all game and by half time their key backs would be stuffed.

Our backline of Rance, Astbury & Grimes would contain Brown, A.Lynch & Bradshaw. Our backline would also run off them all day bloody long. A.Lynch would be standing alone in his goal square all game wondering WTF was going on.

Too much work for those star Brisbane mids to do all day when today all 22 players have to run and cover the distances they do.

No matter how good these older teams were.

We can argue this till the cows came home but you're not going to convince me and I'm not going to convince you otherwise, so I won't reply going forward.

well lucky I wasn't replying to you then was I ....

I'm not saying our teams aren't great, they are. And I still think we beat the Lions 01-03 team with our 17-20 team. But to be as dismissive as you are to that team of theirs just shows one of two things (or both)...

1 - You are so one-eyed bias towards everything Richmond you have no respect for other clubs
2 - You no absolutely nothing about football nor did you play at a relative high/competitive level

I'm actually guessing both.

The fact that you just had to take it to a personal level, even though you can't use *know in the right context convinces me you're just an idiot. :thumbsu:

You've convinced me...
Just need to sort out the Rules...Ground...and umpires!
just a minute...who was on the bench for both sides...that ought to make this interesting even further still!

I'm not downplaying their team at all; I just don't believe people give todays sides enough credit. People like to get sentimental about the past that it sometimes clouds their judgement.

As for the bench, it depends what years we are comparing, for example 2017 v 2001 I would say the Lions bench on paper looked better. They had Beau McDonald, Craig McCrae, Tim Notting & Mal Michael where we had Edwards, Graham. Broad & Castagna. However, our 2017 premiership side didn't have T.Lynch or Bolton in it either.

The rules, the rules today are shit, could you imagine if they never brought in the 6-6-6 rule, limited interchange and stand rule? and dont get me started on umpires please LOL

Or the word "biased". One of grammar's great mysteries!

That 73 game the amount of running was higher than I remembered. Obviously Australians get slightly taller and turn the game pro then footballers can devote their life to it. Fitness goes up. Downside is Ellis/Garth/Butler/Castagna types of high running low possession athletes maybe end up at clubs over Josh Caddy types.
TT though.. wow

We had a GREAT team in the 2018 season but peaked too early. No flag..(a bit like the Saints since 2010;))

I agree...damm so close! We were spluttering towards the end...just had to get over the Wobbles who had a side playing that was breaking the player payment rules! Then we were a golden chance against the Wet Toast!

Looks like Carlton will be missing Sam Walsh in Round 1.

Happy Oh Yeah GIF
