Richmond in a 4 year period 2017-20 win 3 flags, completely dominate the competition and get 6 separate players chosen for 9 AA selections between them in that period.

Geelong one flag in the 4 years 2019-22 get 8 separate players picked for 14 AA selections between them.

Wake up and smell the sewer my friend.

All Australian teams are picked on the home & away season, not the finals. Geelongs ladder positions over that time is better than ours. nothing to see here

The 4 year home and away periods for each team are barely any different and one team gets 9 selections, the other gets 14 selections. If this was a once off you can possibly put it down to variance….but it has been going on like this for 17 years now. Geelong players get picked often over players who prove superior in finals, or are at least the equal during the season. But it doesn’t happen the other way around. I looked at all teams with 18+ win home and away seasons since 2007. Of these teams, Geelong when they have a dominant season average i think 5.5 selections, every other team combined averages 3.5 selections.

It is bent around corners.

And just have a wooden figure dressed in a white coat! (love the white coat bring back the white coat!) placed between the goal posts for tradition!
With the pork pie hat

So what makes you think we deserved more all Australians? ITs not how it works.

We won on good team systems. Our midfield & rucks were beaten nearly every week in hitouts and clearances, so i can perfectly see how they would avoid spots in the AA team. You just come across as sooking about Geelong tbh. Its why our decline was quite fast - the system broke, and then the players did.

They can have more AA & we can have more flags. Thats what happens when you have a better team Vs just better players

if that was scats instead of us that won the 17,19 and 20 flags they wouldve had all 22 in the aa team

Honestly, the us getting less AA players HELPED us immensley

AA spots = higher salaries

If Houli, Ellis, Astbury etc were all getting AA spots, we would not have been able to keep the team together as long as we did. If they were doing it to hurt us, it failed miserably as we won 3/4 flags and were able to keep the team together despite the success

My point isn’t about us it is about Geelong. System or no system your players have to play better than the opposition to win, finish top 4 etc.

Geelong consistently get more players picked in the AA team than other teams who perform similarly. Given it has gone on for 17 years it is clearly the result of bias. Dusty has missed AA selection the only three times he has been anywhere near the margin 2011 2019 2023.

Tom Stewart has been picked about 3 times when he was marginal at best.

Therefore Dusty has 4 selections, Stewart, a miles inferior player has 5 selections and has the highest rate of selection per season played of any player in history. 🤣

Geelong have won 4 flags 2007 onwards and had 58 AA selections. Richmond and Hawthorn COMBINED won 7 flags in that period and had 43 players selected. Players who have played for Hawks/Tigers were captain/vice-captain 3 times. Players who have played for Geelong were captain or vice-captain 11 times.

If their players were really that much better they win more flags.

in defense of the know who did the all time AA team, he did his selections off most times picked in the AA team, rather than who was generally the better player...
Well, it’s still poor work from the writer be cause attention grabbing headline is
“The Ultimate All-Australian team from 1991-2023”, which it obviously isn’t.

The only angle he has under his criteria of most AA selections is to point out how meaningless huge numbers of AA selections can be. His headline says the opposite.

Lazy content filler.

It’s pretty warped. Tom Stewart has gotten 5 x AA in 7-years. Vlastuin has zero. Grimes has 1. Short has zero. Houli has 1. In 2019 Darcy Byrne Jones got a backline selection over Grimes and Vlastuin. I’m pretty sure the wildly successful Richmond team that went back-to-back without Rance from 2019-20 must have defended itself.

In fact, Stewart has more AA’s (5) than Short, Astbury, Broad, Vlastuin, Baker, Grimes and Houli have COMBINED in SQUAD selections.

When they hand out the Geelong jumper they give a couple of complimentary AA blazers… AA selections for Cat players have been a joke since they got 9 into the 2007 team.
