THIS!!!This is the stupid thing. People just think Dusty has been the best player in 3 finals series and any player who is the best player in a finals series matches one of those. They don't realise what Dusty did is near unmatchable, dominating both in the midfield and forward mostly in the same matches. Players just don't do it. He did it 3 times over. Almost all quality forwards have no hope of dominating in the midfield in big games and almost all quality mids have no chance of dominating forward in big games. Then let alone doing it over and over again about 10 times over.
My favourite thing he achieved was being outscored by our 3 Grand Final opposition teams by only 8 goals in 3 matches. Whilst playing mainly midfield. Nobody ever mentions this, but no other player in the whole history of the competition that I can find has done that across 3 or more Grand Finals, ie outscored by whole opposing teams by less than 3 goals per Grand Final. And nobody is close to it. Not even sure it has been bettered across the only 2 Grand Finals a player has played in. The competition has been going for 127 years.
To give some perspective to this, when Ablett Snr played his fabled "best Grand Final performance ever" in 1989, the opposition team in that game alone outscored him by 4 more goals than Dusty was outscored by across 3 separate Grand Finals COMBINED by the Adelaide, GWS and Geelong teams. And the magnificent campaigner was playing mainly midfield, it is ludicrous.
