Lockett was a magnificent player in his time. A brute of a fwd, with a nasty streak and temper. Despite his size was quick over the 1st 5 to 10 meters when on the lead. One of the most reliable set shots at goal.

Never has a Sherrin looked tinier than in the hands of Tony Lockett lining up for goal.

The best thing about Tony was that he was essentially a bush league footballer in every way, physique, hair cut, playing style, communication ability. And yet somehow one of the greats of all time.

I spent far too long screaming into the void that he was worth at least that to be shot down with "won't be best 22" etc.

Stoked to see him back fit and playing the footy we knew he could

Now, do I change my username or my club :'(:'(:'(:'(:'(
I would begin with the avatar, tbh...

To be fair, it's was durability that was the knock with regard to value, which has yet to be proven.

lets not get to ahead of ourselves. lets see him stay on the park for a few weeks first

Yeah that's fine & valid criticism. I thought (& still think) 29 was reasonable value for talent vs durability & risk/reward of that pick but it was the posts saying he wouldn't be best 22 & what he'd be worth if he had no queries over his fitness that I wasn't having. It is still only one game but this is what he's capable of & he is a match winner on his day, losing him cut me deep but our loss, your gain etc. and we probably need to take all the picks we can get.

he is................ when hes fit!

happy having him and happy with the price paid. wouldnt have paid higher tho
Yeah that's what I think, it was fair at 29 and he is best 22, only had a problem with those saying he was worth less and wouldn't be best 22 if fit/not worth the trade even without injury history.

It's been mentioned a few times by Orazio himself and some of the coaches (including Ken yesterday) that he's loving being back in Adelaide and loving being part of Port Adelaide. Reading between the lines, I reckon he was very unhappy in Melbourne and needed to come home to realise his obvious potential. Pick 29 was fair based on recent output ... but recent output was very obviously affected by injury and environment. We got a steal.

He could’ve given the hand pass off or chipped to the player on the lead. He didn’t pass the responsibility onto someone else and said **** it, I’m here to kick goals. Love it, can’t wait to watch him light up Adelaide oval

This is what i like the most. Someone in our forward line who really wants to take responsibility for kicking the goal.

I guess I'll take back everything I said about him.

Though I think the price paid was fine, you had to go with recent form which didn't exist.

Hope he's huge vs his old team. We'll learn alot about him I reckon.

Yeah look I was one of those and on the back of his round 1 I'm calling it now...

Even with the injury concerns, I was wrong. 29 was good value if he can produce that level of quality consistently when fit.

I think part of the backlash was the ridiculous suggestion to straight trade him with Wines - that was where I moved to "ok **** these idiots (Lloyd and Dodo)"

he didn't quite consistently do it at Essendon but as a 21/22 year old in 2016 in such a shit side & 2017 to pull off a dozen games like that was why I rate him so highly, with a decent run at it without injuries and a bit more maturity you can see why he was valued highly by fans. Everyone thinks their players are worth more than they are but I don't think Wines for Fantasia would have been fair at any point of their careers.

Wines said Fantasia’s three second-term goals were pivotal.

“That speed and gut running he has … you see when we’re able to generate those turnovers in the midfield, which we pride ourselves on, the amount of speed we’ve got to break and go, Razz (Fantasia) is exceptional at that,” he said.

“I think he fits the characteristics of the group, every club tries to pride itself on being a family-based club, but we genuinely are, we’re grassroots based and we understand our background and history and we fight and scrap for everything we’ve got and he’s done that throughout his career and he’s bought into that with us.

“You see the goals he kicks, but you don’t see the little things does, the pressure and speed he puts on, on the opposition to turn the ball over, which is exceptional and he’s an important part of us now.”

Orazio Fantasia celebrates one of his four goals.

Fantasia was speedy, elusive and able to shrug off his defenders with flair in his four-goal performance. Then, with three minutes left in the game he also proved himself selfless, when he shunned the chance to kick his fifth goal of the day, passing his set shot on goal from 50m off to Xavier Duursma (who converted).

On Fox Footy, Jason Dunstall queried the move: “What was he thinking? You don’t get bags of five every week. There are only two people happy with that: Xavier Duursma and Travis Boak because he’s looking for the three (Brownlow) votes.” There was another: Wines, who said Fantasia’s decision was part of the team-first mentality that the ex-Bomber had bought into.
