COLLINGWOOD FINAL 22

Strategy - Wanted to build for a premiership side. Some strength at CHB hence recruitment of Hunter and then get some stronger bodies in middle like Waters and Lewis. Also wanted pace outside and got Young and Stanton for that.

List - Didnt trade any of my young blokes that I wanted in Swan, Pendles, Thomas, Cloke, Brown etc albeit under a lot of stress at times.

Depth - also wanted great depth to list and so with OBree, Doughty, Shirley, McCarthy etc

The one that got away - a few - WR is the hardest bloke in the world to deal with. Couldnt get Rutten having tried everything nor Thompson. Also was keen on Hasleby for the whole trade period but couldnt get it done.

Fremantle Dockers Final List

Strategy

I went into trade week, planning on picking up early draft picks. With all the retirings at Fremantle this year, I already had enough room for 7 draft picks. So I wasn't able to trade away too many players, or else I wouldn't have had a list. My focus was to trade away fringe players, and get into the club young WA-born players. While I didn't have a huge turn over of players like some teams, I have managed to get 4 four picks in the first 21. My final team is one of, if not the, youngest team in the AFL. And would be a serious premiership threat in about 3 years.

PORT ADELAIDE

Strategy:
- Geelong and Hawthorn are the standout teams - must trade for a team that can compete
- Noted deficiencies
1) a lack of tough inside midfielders
2) ruckmen - Lade will retire in 1-2 years, Brogan not too long after that
3) young burly contested marking forward in which a team can be built around; Tredrea will retire in 1-3 years while Westoff has trouble putting on muscle mass.
- Noted list did play in grand final in 2007 with a fit Chad Cornes.
- Noted best chance to win premiership is with Cornes and Burgoyne boys
- To note prior to 2008 trade and draft - Port Adelaide has one of the younger lists

Aim -
To improve list by trading or drafting to improve weaknesses

Goals achieved?
1) Carr, S. Hurn, J. Kennedy
Carr older, experienced campaigner coming home. S. Hurn, SA kid, big body, rotating through midfield/crash and bash/long kick. Happy to sit on J. Kennedy who has shown a bit, willing to take a punt in terms of development here. Tried to get Kerr, Bartel and J. Lewis but no success.
2) Seaby
Seaby gives at least 5 years backup and cover in ruck when Lade and Brogan disappear in the coming years. Tried trading for young ruckmen but they were expensive.
3) Hall, Thorp, Rusling, McKinley
Hall, an absolute bonus, could be used for the right now. Thorp to be played and developed. Being outside the current 22 - Rusling can be left to recover from injuries and developed. McKinley was a bonus. Tried for T. Hawkins but no success either.

Problems?
Nil Draft picks, virtually. Concern for the future. As a result consideration given to trade established starters. Alleviated a little by most of the players traded in were young and youngish list.

  • Essendon Bombers
    Strategy:
    - Geelong and Hawthorn are the standout teams - must trade for a team that can compete
    - Noted deficiencies
    1) a tough tall defender
    2) ruckmen - need a third ruckman
    3) high quality rebounder

    Aim -
To improve list by trading or drafting to improve weaknesses

    Goals achieved?
    1) got a better midfield. lost Stanton, but got Tarkyn Lockyer and Andrew Raines, either can play HB or wing, so ended up with better players.
    Problems?
Didn't get a young 2nd or 3rd ruckman, which is needed. also lacking a real quality rebounder, although Raines can play there. I also didn't get my KPB.

This List has the makings of a very good one before trade week, my aim was to just add alot more depth in young talent so rather then having players like Fletcher to come into the side you have guys like Whitecross or Ross etc. Also grabbing another pick in the top 10 will allow us to again improve a position we may be week in. Planning on a couple of my draftees playing league footy next season aswell.

REST: M.Brown, Rosa, Whitecross, S.Selwood, Ross, Notte, Dempsey

Picking up these guys aswell pick 9 i think has aloud for the west coast footy club to rebuild very quickly & give it best chance of succsess by 2011. Jamieson, Murphy, Je.Smith, Ellis, Wells, Rodan, Mcmahon, L.Thomas,Reid, Warnock, Tuck, Renouf, Dodd,Whitecross,Ross, Dempsey.

Our first pick is saved up for nic nat to give us 3 terrfic ruckman going forward, our second pick is likely to be used on a KPP player who has the ability to play in defence because our midfield & forward stocks are pretty good following on from there we will just draft the best player around.
