When hasnt Briz been pessimistic looking at our list?

IMO 12 months from now we will have a pretty decent idea of our list and needs for the next tilt at finals.. Age and quality wise. What needs filling with trades.

Warner - trade 2025
Another quality mid - draft
Mature #1 Ruck - ruck merry go round
KP defender - trade / free agency (keep developing what we have)

Huge hand of picks in 2025 and a big fish looking to return to Perth.

I stopped conversing with Briz as he refused to factor in future trades of players and instead rambled on and on that using the draft will take forever. Whilst mentioning "you dont have the academy access orhers do"

In 12 months we should also know what Harley is doing. Either way he goes is a pivotal list moment on where we sit in 2026 and 2027.
If baker was worth pick 14 then West Coast will pony up pick 2 and 14 for Warner. There goes their 2025 draft hand.

Although if Harley leave they probably get that and a little more back as well. But it sets them back even further.

Think....

This is a Allen thread......not a Warner thread.
Thanks for clarifying and keeping me on track. It’s hard to know sometimes when you see posts like the below.

Lol.

That post was directly related to why would you / Eagles retain Allen. Eagles wont contend for over 5 years was the assertion.. The questionwas who are the core players in 5 year including Allen.

That was my response to why Allen is worth keeping. In the Allen thread.

You are obviously trolling......not very well I will say.

It is a valid question you ask though.
But Eagles won’t be contending in 5 years. They are well off it with their list profile. Best to let Allan go for a first rounder.

Warner isnt worth that much lol. The gap between he and Reids values are still decent. Reid if he does what we expect will be the most valuable player in the comp in 12 months time, including Daicos and JHF and whoever else.
If Harley wanted to go in 2025 then id be telling him Richmond is the only club we will deal with, pick 1+Norths 1st pick as the base, if it ends up being pick 1+2 then a straight swap for Reid sounds good.

Anyways, back to something that isn't entirely speculation on the value of a 2nd player in a years time.
I agree letting Allen go is logically the correct move too, but id imagine he wont really want to leave and we wont push him out either. We will offer him something close to market value, at maybe 1 year less than he would prefer.

He's not going to go to Richmond so it's irrelevant. Players have too much power now.

He ain't choosing Geelong mate, it'll be Collingwood, should he ever request a move home.

I didn't say he would choose Geelong but there's zero chance he would choose Richmond.

Eagles will be contending in 5 years.

That is 2030. 12 years after their last flag.

They on average contend every 10 years and win one.

You have to run a total root (as some clubs do) to not contend in a 10 year period.

When the Eagles are successful again Oscar won’t be on their list.

Eagles will be contending before Richmond buddy.

So whatever troll comment / prediction you put up for the Eagles add another 3 years to when Richmond will contend again. Minimum. :) ;)
This thread ain’t about Richmond.
I just can’t see the current batch of juniors carrying west coast to a flag within five years. Especially if Reid goes. The midfield is pretty bare.

What makes you think Reid will leave? There has been 0 signs/indication that he would want to leave as of yet, but for some reason it keeps getting brought up

Heard on the grapevine that Oscar was seen having a coffee with Adrian Hickmott recently. For those that are not aware Adrian is an assistant coach at Hawthorn these days.
Well as unlikely as it is that this is true, he would be a good fit for the Hawks with Lewis unable to ever get on the park

Ditto with Richmond.

So will they take over 8 years to contend again?

If Oscar isn't there when the Eagles contend that's 5 to 6 years away. Tigers are years behind the Eagles rebuild.

So will it take the Richmond list 8 or 9 years to contend again?

Because that is how long you are saying it takes.

Or do your 'rose coloured glasses' see the Tigers draftees all becoming guns within 3 years? And every other teams players don't improve.

I’m not sure why you are trying to make this thread about the tigers.

But I don’t see our list three years behind West Coasts. And yes I think our window will open in about seven years if and only if our top end draft picks this year and next turn out to be guns. That makes them 24-25, which still may be too young for a core group to contend. That may even be my ‘rose coloured glasses’ you refer to.

Our last window opened in 2017 after bottoming out in 2009. Even then we had a few guns in the side. 8 years.

Melbournes opened in 2020 after bottoming out in 2009. 11 years. North bottomed out in 2018 and are still miles off it.

Carlton began their rebuild in 2015 and are now contending. Brisbane took a similar amount of time (started 2014 and won the flag 10 years later).

So yeah these things take time.

Looking at your last three drafts I don’t see the top end talent in the key positions required to build the core for a flag. And take Harley out and the cupboard is particularly bare. It won’t be 5 years Bean.

What are these 'key' positions you speak of?

Also, draft isn't the only way to build a list. People are ignoring trade and free agency and obsess over guys who are just starting their careers like they're always going to remain at the same level...
