What Richmond did?

Have a bunch of players quit on the club, try and get them to stay but ultimately fail so try and make the best of the situation?

That wasn’t a master plan, Richmond were forced into a corner.
We may also have to do the same.
Oscar isn't a certainty to stay.May leave for success or a better deal.
Same applies for Harley. At the moment we are only seeing glimpses and far from the finished product.
If one or both leave at the end of the year i won't be unhappy so long as we get top ten picks.
Draft some top end talent.
If they both decided to sign on i would expect an improvement in their form.

Oscar will stay. They’ll get it sorted. It’s Round 3, don't buy into all the hoopla that is the ‘2025 Trade Period Commencing February 2025’ as decided by the guys who tally clickbait on social media.

Harley may or may not go but he has a contract for 1.9 more seasons and I doubt they trade him before then. Who knows what will be on the table by then.

Is Oscar Allen worth more on the trade table than Liam Baker?
Yes because he is a key forward, but Allen has had injury concerns & it's not like he has had multiple consistent seasons.
he has only had one 50+ goal, and next best is 28 goals. I can see why the Eagles are cautious about not breaking the bank for him.

You are bang on - a combination of spending his formative years as 3rd String behind Kennedy and Darling and but he’s essentially played 1.5/3 seasons since he would have had the chance to lead the forward line due to injury - to his credit, his 1 full season in that time was excellent….but down he goes in 2024 and Jake Waterman pops up as viable forward line leader - young talls like Archer Reid, Jack Williams and Jobe Shanahan could be fast tracked at CHF.

For Oscar, the sample size of his best footy is small and the injuries are a real concern.

As I said, I think he stays but I think he will get something like 5 Years with a trigger for a 6th - which is a genuine gamble for West Coast - I’m sure the club would rather 3 with a trigger for 4.

Lots of reasons, some rational some not.

He’s has huge durability issues that have been discussed here for a start.

We can be taking a risk on 6-7 years for Oscar.

We need high end talent through the draft. This might be our only chance to get another top 5 pick. We don’t have any other band 1 RFA’s until Hough in 2029.

We have a knack of taking talls with pics in the 20s and 30s and developing them. We currently have archery and Joe Shanahan who both look good and I’d say even better than what Oscar did at that point in his career.

I also think Baker, Waterman and even Duggan has shown leadership in spades that Oscar has never shown, particularly this year.

The less rational part is Oscar is the very symbolic of the old West Coast from 2018 to 2023, and I’m just ready to move on.

Genuinely excited to see the back of Oscar.
Whilst I agree that we should let Oscar go if we finish bottom two, it’s disrespectful to put it like that. It’s an indictment on the club that we’re in a position where we need to consider letting go the captain of our club and elite KPF.

Oscar didn’t choose to be captain, he was elected by his peers. His rehab has been exemplary and an example to others.

Trading down top 3 picks for HBFs instead of midfielders in two out of three years at the bottom is what I want to see the back of.

I’ve always been unders compared to other west coast supporters when it comes to valuing Oscar.

But I’ll say my respect for him has taken an even bigger hit with his demands and way he has gone about this contract negotiation.

Players vote for who is captain, but people put themselves forward for consideration.

Oscar out himself forward even though he wasn’t going into the year unsigned. It’s Oscar that out himself (and is) in the position of potentially losing our captain.

What demands that he’s made are you referring to?

I'm talking about the demands around his contract length clearly.

Imagine putting your hand up to be captain in a year you are out of contract and then using being captain as a wedging tool against the club to get more years "you don't want to lose your captain"... Yeah bro, cos you put your hand up for it.

I think it's an absolutely shit thing for a captain to do to hold his club over a barrel like that.

Would be disappointed if he signed on at this stage.

That’s what I’m asking, which demand that you know he’s made do you consider unreasonable?
All the reporting is that he wants 6-7 years.

Given his form and injury history I think that's unreasonable. I'm entitled to begrudge Oscar for how he's carrying himself through his contract negotiations.

You’re perfectly entitled to begrudge any player you want, what I’m interested in is on what basis you’ve formed that opinion.
