Jake Niall reporting tonight:
"Carlton have not yet offered contracts to small forward Matt Owies and midfielder Jack Carroll, largely because of a tight salary cap.

The Blues have been in discussions with the management of Owies and Carroll and want to retain that pair, but have been reluctant to put offers on the table until they have a clearer picture of their total player payments (TPP) for 2025, according to a club source speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Blues also have not offered a deal to out-of-contract forward Jack Martin, whose future at the club is undecided, as the talented Martin struggles with injury in the last year of a heavily front-ended five-year deal.

Carlton’s salary cap is already tight and shapes as extremely restricted on the back of their surge to the top four, with the Blues also mindful of the hefty deal that gun key defender Jacob Weitering will command from 2025, when he will be a restricted free agent. Star midfielder Sam Walsh is coming out of contract at the end of 2026, when he, too, is slated for free agency.

Most Victorian clubs have, or will have, significant space in their salary caps, making Carlton an exception. The Blues have had to secure stars Cripps, Curnow, McKay, Walsh and Weitering, while landing midfielder Adam Cerra from Fremantle and Williams and Saad from the Giants and Essendon on significant multi-year deals.
Here is our chance to get owies. Be great having him in the boxing gym tied to a post

Yet Carlton were after Will Hayward.

I don't think Carlton have much regard for the salary cap tbh.
