Bonts will be pretty much untaggable in a few years I reckon. For a start he's obviously going to be a massive unit so that already makes him hard to tag but if someone gets the better of him we can just move him deep forward where his height, leap, marking ability and (future) strength will be way too hard for your average tagger to handle. You'd just about have to move a medium/key defender onto him which = Crameri/Grant/Stringer get a mismatch.

If that's still our forward line in a few years we have a serious problem. :p

I'd hope those guys are still around in our forward line in a few years, of course we'd want some better talls alongside them but I meant that those are the guys who would get the mismatches because the opposition isn't going to move their number 1 key defender onto him they'd move their 3rd/4th tall.

This is what I have been saying in the coaching thread, that the club is doing a lot right and we are on the right path. The kids we have are coming along. We need to be patient, this week we play the cats and chances are we'll get pants and the vibe on here will swing as is the nature of footy. But if we continue to see where we are headed we'll be ok.

We have holes in the list. We don't have CHF, FF or a CHB. What we have are some possibles. Now I just reckon that at least one of our young talls will step up in the next 12 months, I just think they are ticking along at Footscray nicely and one day it will fall into place. If we can draft another couple of KP this draft, with luck one could be one of the really good ones then great. If not we should add yet another mid who will help with our half back and half forward flank set ups.

Let see what the kids bring this week against a good team at their home.

Somewhere in this draft or trade period we must get a tall forward, the reasons for which have been mentioned infinitum.

Anyone got the Kahuna's to have a go at ranking a top 10? 2010 Draft and after. Libba, Wallis, Dahlhaus, Johannisen, Smith, Talia, Darley, Pearce, Roberts, Stinger, Macrae, Hrovat, Hunter, Bontempelli, Honeychurch - plus others like Prudden, Jong et al who've been on the periphery.

I'm forecasting our player's standings around R22, 2016.

1) Libba. Just an out and out jet. Already the game’s best extractor, tackler and contested possession winner. All Australian, potential Brownlow winner by then. Can’t see his progress slowing – he’ll be top shelf by this stage. All-time great of our club.
2) Macrae. Already shown great ability as an accumulator. Fledgling leader. Already proving remarkably consistent with output and durable with health. Rises his game when it matters. Taking votes off Libba weekly in our wins.
3) Bontempelli. Will have around 50 games by this stage…look out world. Another who’s already proven that he can stand up in the crunch. Projects as a 30 possession, 4 goal match winner (on occasion) for me.
4) Stringer. Has he been able to build a tank? If yes, then his power around the contest makes me giddy with visions of Ricciuto / Voss. If not, then he looms as scary, physical, match-winning forward – Stevey J style. Could very well top this list, but may not be on it at all…
5) Wallis. Probably not a popular selection. But he’s proven to be elite as a defense-first midfielder. By this stage of his career, I project him as a Ling type stopper. Kid is ruthless, brave and selfless. Potential captain.
6) Dahlhaus. Already turned himself into a player consistently in our bests. As others gain midfield time, he may get shunted to playing small forward more often, hurting his ranking here.
7) Hunter. Long term creative HFF with poise. Has potential to be a Gia type – 40 goals, 40 goal assists a year (if we find someone for him to kick it to!).
8) Hrovat. Looms a good role player. Able to rotate through midfield, forward and spend minutes inside and outside the contest as required – Chance Bateman?
9) Smith. Disposal hurts him, others may go past him. However, has a knack of kicking goals. I get the feeling that his opportunities become more frequent with Boyd (hard midfielder), Gia (medium goal kicker) and Cooney (midfield goal kicker) nearing the end.
10) Roberts. Smokey last up. Looks like a footballer growing into himself. Doesn’t seem to be ruffled easily, reads the game very, makes good use of the ball. See him potentially as one of the first picked each week after our stars. Don’t think he projects as a Chris Grant level CHB, but a dependable solid backman like Matt Croft.

Note: that wasn't as easy as i first thought!

I'd have Dalhaus much higher. Even 2 at this stage.
He is the kind of guy that will drag you over the line in finals.
Some of the marks he took on the weekend were pure determination, and so important to us winning.

Stevens
Hunter
Talia
Roberts
Cordy
Campbell
Honeychurch

Prudden

18 very promising kids but more important is that there are a mix off positions.

If we finish with pick 5 in the draft -Higgins to GWS -they need him bad run and poise and he fits with being 26.
we would get a end of first round for him or even pick 6 as he was a first round draftee

We then trade pick 5 to GWS for Patton they get Higgins free agent for nothing and say Brayshaw outside run they need and keep pick 2 for Wright or Durdin

We get in this draft:patton-Picks 20-21 -38-49
GWS get in this draft:Higgins-Durdin- picks 22-23-39

Please get this done

Dalhouse Patton Stringer

Hunter Jones Bont

Nice look about that.....

Everyone rates their kids super highly, let's see them develop first.

I think we all (well most of us do) appreciate that there is still a heap of development to be had and experience to be gained before we place them in the Hall of Fame but geez there's so much to like.

We're developing the All New 2014 Wog Squad!

Bontempelli, Liberatore, and Tutt*!

(*qualifies as wog because he's nicknamed after an Egyptian)
We need to add Christian Petracca to that list and it will be the Wog Squad to end all Wog Squads.........Make it happen please

I have heard Patton a lot in this thread. Wouldn't Sam Reid be more realistic and come at a much cheaper price. Still in the right age bracket and lots of upside.

Currently as it stands 2009 draftees and onwards

1. Libba
2. Macrae
3. Dahlhaus
4. Stringer
5. Bontempelli
6. Stevens
7. Wallis
8. Hunter
9. Hrovat
10. Campbell

What it will be....

1. Libba/Stringer
2. Stringer/Libba
3. Bontempelli
4. Macrae
5. Hrovat
6. Dahlhaus
7. Hunter
8. Campbell
9. Wallis
10. Talia
11. Smith
12. Honeychurch
13. Roberts
14. Stevens
15. Darley
16. JJ

You could argue that if even players such Cordy, Grant and Jones etc don't come and one or two of these players mentioned above don't make it our nucleus is still particularly strong.

The rest

He can't stand under a high ball in finals the way Patton can - Reid's a run and jump at the ball player. We have those already.

He can't stand under a high ball in finals the way Patton can - Reid's a run and jump at the ball player. We have those already.
Don't agree. Yes Patton has the potential for a bigger frame but Reid is the better mark at this stage. Strong in a pack or on a lead. Still has to fill out his frame as well. Also can be used down back if needed. Not sure Patton will have another position.

What I like is how Bonti and Macrae compliment each other.

If the opposition coach doesn't tag Macrae, it's death by thousand cuts. He loves the one-two possie AND then hits the target. He'd be a nightmare because he has no fear of honouring the short lead because he KNOWS he'll put the ball on his chest.

Bonti can win the hardball, get those long arms free and handball to someone in better position and open up the play. And if the ball is kicked to him, his height would give him the advantage over his opponent and then he'll kick it. And boy can he kick it.

If Bonti is quiet, put him forward. He's a proven goal kicker and will be a nightmare to match up on when there are other talls the defence have to contend with.

It will be interesting how both go against Geelong. Will Scott be arrogant enough to not tag any of the midfielders we have and just let them go head to head?

Will the game be like the game against Port?

It should be very interesting.
