I believe we should have went tall with our second round picks in 2012 (Hrovat) and 2013 (Fuller). Less worried about the Honeychurch selection as its hard to get a good tall that late in the draft.

Yet the other two selections were mistakes in my mind. Classic case of drafting what we beleive was the best available talent rather than drafting for our needs. Why does this happen. People at our "close nit, family club" constantly over rate our players. Too much faith in our current talls who most of them are just not good enough. Yet we draft Hrovat another small in and under when we have Libba, Wallis, Smith already and then take a back pocket specialist who any decent player can adapt and play these days. I'm not saying that these two may not become good players yet its wasn't what we need. Good clubs get this right more than us, Hawthorn, Collingwood etc. and clubs like us, Melbourne (terrible recruiting) get it wrong more often. Hahn as a rookie, Lower and Goodes and many more mistakes we shouldn't make if we wont to be a power club.

Also believe we should have punted on talls with our rookie selections. Yes I know Redpath, but he wont make it, too slow for today's footy.

Mitch Harvey and Mason Shaw were really the only two decent players that could be justified at those picks, the rest of KPPS have done sfa
There hasn't been a whole lot of young KPP talent in the last couple of drafts; this year however....I think if Jayden Foster slips through the draft, we should rookie him in place of Redpath; has kicked 7 goals the past two games and must be a fair size since he competes through the ruck

Disagree, Hrovat is what we need. A classy disposer of the football, with leadership coming out of his arse. Fuller is also exactly what we need, Murphy will not play forever and he was the best kick in the draft and highly rated by Hawthorn. Also if any decent player can play that position, why is it that we are struggling terribly to fill it?

History has shown, you shouldn't reach for talls. Answer me this would you rather that we had Hrovat and Fuller on our list or the equivalent of Patrick Wiggins and Tim Walsh?

Hawthorn have quite a few stuff ups in their past also, you want to talk about Dowler and Thorp (pick 7 was Selwood!) with pick 6, both absolute reaches because they were tall.
Collingwood spend more money than anyone on recruiting (we can't compete with them) yet still stuff up a fair bit also. Like trading pick 14 for Cameron Wood!

We can all cherry pick. Mind Lower and Goodes are there for a reason and Lower gave good value and Goodes is too. Mitch Hahn was also more a player coach. These aren't mistakes. Howard, that was a mistake. Everitt was a mistake. What do these have in common? They were reaches for needs rather than best available.

Redpath isn't up to AFL level but his speed is actually one of his true assets. Despite his size he's actually amongst the quickest on our list.

immortalmike, i'm not talking about reaching with project talls.

I'm saying we massively missed a trick with a very specific player - Tom Langdon. A medium-tall, pacy halfback with good hands and a good kick is also exactly what we need. And he was ready to go immediately when drafted.

Even if Fuller works out, I find it hard to imagine he has more to offer than Langdon does.

I know that is all hindsight talking. And I have no idea how well hidden he was in 2013. I was simply making the point that he already looks like a big miss to me.

My post was more a response to LondonBulldog and the like complaining about not drafting talls.

On Langdon, it's a good point, but 6 or so games does not a career make. Looks the goods now however, then again so did Tom Young this time last year (actually most of last year) now some posters have him delisted. But to be honest there will always be players we miss. How many teams are pissed they passed on Dahlhaus multiple times, a kid who looked fantastic from day dot in the system. What about someone like Dale Morris? Collingwood would have loved a player like him when they lost James Clement. Even the guys who spend big miss players, I think we do pretty well with the resources we have, especially recently.
