There's a report in a Sydney Sunday newspaper that Ned Mortimer, son of former top rugby league player Chris Mortimer, one of the three Mortimer brothers at Canterbury, is on the verge of returning to the Swans reserves side, where he played a game last year after recovering from a knee injury two years ago
he's apparently a gun playing in the Wagga league (Mortimer territory) and wants to follow Kieren Jack and Paul Bevan into the Swans seniors
his dad was a serious tough guy, and apparently ned has played state representative level in both league and aussie rules

it's now quite obvious that whatever else jack and bevan can do, they are outstanding tacklers and generally hard nuts
his club coach rates him the best of his age in what is a strong region for both codes
good luck to him, i love seeing these league kids take up our code and excel, and bring their league hardness with them

Yes traditionally players with Rugby (or Rugby League) backgrounds are very good at tackling and are usually fearless when going for the ball. The Swans have benefited from this more than any other team for the simple reason they are based in Rugby League heartland.

Also the Mortimer family is very famous and it would be a massive coup to get one playing for the Swans.

The best example Paul Kelly - Captain Courageous. Also a Wagga boy.
