Our small forwards will be an awesome combo

I was really worried about our forward setup/ scoring potential this year. I still am actually. Menzel is a star and Hawkins should keep providing a target and kicking his couple of goals, but the other players certainly don't instill much fear to the oppositions. I would love Motlop to play as a permanent half forward/forward pocket because he is certainly capable of kicking 50 odd goals if he stays down there.

I have to admit the bar here is kinda low... we have not been great here.

That said, there is some real positives to the F 50 after the Freo game IMO. Hawkins moving around, PFD and Sel forward. Good delivery that was not all bombed long to the F 50.

Still things to work on - but yes the outlook is better than last year. Small sample size. Want to see more.

Gotta say, I love Linc but he's still got a long way to go. He really should be a hell of a lot better at ground level for his size. Runs over the footy a lot. Love the way he goes about it, though.

Menz , Cocky , Linc , Motlop ... and plenty will say the Narkle and JJones will add to it. Still not quite like having Ronnie Burns but we are getting there

Cocky and Linc looks good to very good but they do seem to have the Cats curse , where both struggles to stay fit. Get 40+ games in a row into them and both could become very good to even better.

The setup will be even better when Gregson's back in seniors in 2018.

- Stanley/Black/Buzza FF
- Hawkins CHF
- Menzel
- Cockatoo
- McCarthy
- Gregson
Still got Motlop & possibly Murdoch rotating through there. Maybe guys like Hayball, Jones, Esava, Narkle pushing for games. Will be exciting.

In a pick em I would be taking Motlop and Menzel ahead of Ronnie Burns and I'd be disappointed if Cocky doesn't become a better player also.

That said the small/medium forwards have been an issue.

Motlop is the only one you could pencil in for 30 goals, due to Menzel's injury history, and the problem with Motlop is most of those 30 will be against weak teams.

Positive signs round 1.

But

How much of it was quick ball movement? Can they maintain the quick ball movement all year?

How much of it was due to underwhelming opposition? Can they maintain it against a team like Sydney who they have all gone missing against in the past?

How much of it was due to the expanses of Subiaco? Can they maintain it when teams flood the crap out of the forward line at Etihad?

Remains to be seen.

How good is his left foot, at least left foot snaps. It feels a little rare to see someone so adept on the non-preferred in the current AFL ranks. He's a lovely mark too.

Ronnie kicked 6 twice but yes id say Motlop is probably the classier player

Burns would actually be the perfect player for us right now.
He was a bit more mercurial than the likes of Motlop and S.Johnson and he was brilliant at creating turnovers and crumbing the packs.
Be an upgrade over Motlop as of right now as Motlop doesn't kick as many goals as he's not a stay at home forward pocket specialist.

Wait he's gone for the year I can't remember seeing anything saying that.

Not gone for the year just don't expect to see him back until second half of the season at the earliest so I expect him to be managed + play VFL rest of the year. So seniors to start 2018 I'm predicting :thumbsu:
