have heard from a number of guys they have been told they are standing alone as tatong and swanpool weren't interested in there proposal to the league

Ok so that means Tatong and Swanpool will fold as I don't see the AFL Vic letting them do anything else!

Has anyone heard any word on when this process will be completed?
The league would have to start looking at the draw. Also because this must be taking up a bit of time surely the 3rds comp has been forgotten about again!

according to the boys at goorambat they have gone ahead appointed a coach and have a meeting this week I think in regards to the way there going for the future .. not sure on tatong and swanny but it's not looking good

Anyone else heard the whisper? Glenrowan have signed another half a dozen players including J bihun, J Kelly (as mentioned in the above post) also K Norman, D steer, and Ben Bell?!

NBM, I heard NW had offered B Bell the Capt/Coach role.....Also does anyone know if the rumoured money being offered to Norman by G/rowan is correct....

I have heard a couple of rumours, $25 grand for the season which ends up being about 1300 a game, plus living in a house owned by the mcphails free of charge for the season and the use of a speed boat over the summer. Regardless of what he does get payed.... If he does sign for glenrowan, will there be any point in us opposition teams taking to the field? He dominates ovens and Murray, imagine the impact he would have on ovens and king!! And imagine the after game celebrations, few fruity disco biscuits flying around I would imagine

Haven't heard the dollar figure but I imagine it wouldn't be any less than $1000 clams, if groth is worth $11- $1200 then Norman would have to be asking for that much at least. had heard about the house. Has a house in mulwala/yarrawonga for the summer according to a recent post on one of those social media sites people use these days.

For a bloke to be getting that amount of coin playing in a league ranked in the mid-40's in Victoria is a scary proposition.
Is the skyrocketing player payments the fault of the players or the clubs?

Fault lies in both Bunyip.....Egotistical administrators who never won a flag themselves so the thought of buying one moistens their loins and stuff the consequences when everyone walks away....and players who are savvy enough to suck said administrators in.....Supply and demand......

Maybe clubs should band together and ensure gate takings are down and don't spend money when they go to these clubs and make the bills a lot harder to pay...And what of the poor bastards who work their rings off to raise the money to make sure these types get paid....I'm sure they'll just keep pushing the broom to clean up the mess when it's all over....

Slim, I'll keep my cards close to my chest on this forum for obvious reasons, but I had a conversationwith a person who I consider to be very much "in the know" & while he didn't say as much, I got the distinct impression he thought it was the players fault that payments are increasing. This may be naive but I honestly just can't see players putting prices on their heads & clubs blindly agreeing into their demands.

It's pretty simple Bunyip if clubs refuse to pay it, then parasites won't get it....

Sparra I have a lot of time for the Veggie man, he may be a red wine philosopher but what he says is right and he doesn't shy away from his comments......Rumour has it that a club in our league is willing to spend in excess of 100k next season to win a flag.....Only 2 sorts of ppl benefit from that....the egotistical rod strokers and the parasites....

Been following the thread for a year or so now and thought I'd sign up after seeing these last couple of posts, I'm not a local but a few of the new Glenny boys from last year kept telling me about how much fun they were having up there, and I saw it first hand travelling up there a few times to have a look.

So I'm wondering - Why is it a fault? The club has done a great job at getting more people who have never been involved in the O&K whether they be local, from other nearby country towns or as far away as Melbourne like myself. Or would you rather the league fade away? Every time I have gone and watched a game the club on and the players on and off the field appeared to pay up most respect to their opposition and it mostly appeared to be paid back to them. Every game was fair and hard fought out (particularly the finals games that I saw).

My understanding was that the club was dead on its ass at the end of 2012 and then a group of people that had been involved with the club in the past got together and wanted to change that. They didn't want the rich history of that club to die so they put their heads together and made something of not much. When and how is that ever a bad thing or a 'fault'? Ask any great footballer or sports person/fan and they would no doubt say that during a year of football scandals and bad news, the Glenrowan story was something that made football what it is and why communities throughout this country love being part of a football club.

I'm guessing the great clubs of this league are happy for what Glenrowan is doing and has done, albeit a more challenging environment, the good clubs will thrive on the challenge and the competition as does Glenrowan I assume. Tell me, would you rather beat the under 15's in a grand final or the best team in your league?

And in regards to calling the management and players egotistical rod strokers and parasites, I would call you a little negative Nancy with your g string back to front. Why don't you get off your keyboard and have a crack a doing something like that with your own club!? Maybe you need a bit more of an ego, its not always a bad thing - at least it gets shit done!

I 100% agree, as I've said previously on this forum, all power to Glenrowan, a stunning transformation no doubt underpinned by some hard work & long hours. We've had this debate online many times, I just don't think it serves the community (& it is after all "social" footy) to have a seriously lopsided comp & player payments don't help in this regard.
Read a brief article in the Chronicle the other day suggesting the powers that be may look into "player payments" but I can't see it changing much in the interim.

Most of your post is spot on!!
The one thing I will pull you up on was the respect shown to other clubs. I know for a fact that two of their losses during the year not one of their players went into the club rooms after the game and had a drink! Pretty poor.

And yes it's great to have teams that are competitive. Your right no one likes winning by over 200pts as no one gets anything out of that!!

I think the point some are making is the money side of it! We have to remember that it's country footy! Some of the rumored amounts are starting to get out of control! If you have the money that's great, spend it. But remember you still want your club to be around in 5 to 10years time. A premiership now is great! But you have to look long term! Hopefully Glenrowan can be a force for years to come and I think most people want that. It's great for the league!

The rapid rise of the club is amazing and I'm sure other clubs are looking at what they are doing and trying to do the same. And I'm sure all the blokes did have a great time there. You spend anytime at a country club and you enjoy yourself!

The question is is it sustainable for the long term future of the Glenrowan football/netball club?

I hope so
